Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Ezren is officially augmenting his Class Deck Box (Hell's Vengeance Character Deck 2) with the Ultimate Magic Add-On Deck.
Surprising nobody, given that they're essential to every facet of my character, Ezren will take Card Feat: Spell. He will fill in his new spell slot with Fire Snake.

For your non-combat check, discard this card to use your Arcane or Divine skill.
After playing this card, if you do not have either the Arcane or Divine skill, banish it; otherwise, you may succeed at an Arcane or Divine 8 check to recharge this card instead of discarding it.
Card Upgrade Preferences:
Note that I think both the Item B and Spell B are better card upgrades, but I'd rather the Ally. Both of the other two are Basics that will be gained permanently by using the Sunburst Market + Banish-on-use cards over the next 2 scenarios. Still, with no Ally 1 or Spell 1 cards, my picks aren't likely very impactful, so consider me a lower priority than anyone else who wants the Ally B.
Also, I have a moderate, but not extreme, interest in the Compass loot. I strongly suspect it will serve other players better, like Hayato.
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Oh, I just realised (looking at my Deck Handler) that I banished Caltrop Bead during the scenario. I seem to recall I did so to deal with a Combat 8 check against a Coffer Corpse without risking an overkill.
In the past, I've always just replaced the empty item slot with Caltrop Bead again anyway, but now I have the Ultimate Magic Add-On, I will fill my empty Item Slot with the Item B "Spellbook" card.
Picture of Spellbook (from Paizo Blog)
I rescind "Item B" from my card upgrade preferences. My Deck Handler will be updated with my changes so far shortly (removing Caltrop Bead, adding Spellbook and Fire Snake).
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Ezren accepts the Ally B for his Card Upgrade, replacing Jinx Eater with Ultimate Magic's Apprentice. (For reference: The Apprentice can be recharged to add 1d6 to any of my Arcane or Divine checks, and has the normal discard-to-explore power. Nice and simple)
I'm going to write up some flavor regarding my missing bodyguard and Cultist at the end of the adventure, I think, depending on how it fits into the epilogue/prologue.
Vika - Maelwys |
The only upgrade that I see of any use to me is Blessing B (Blessing of Gorum). But if somebody else has more use for it, I'll happily conceed to them.
Aside from that, I'll want the new Armor at some point. I might wait with the Hood for now if nobody else wants to wear it, but once I get my Power Feat I'm converting the hood into Armor.
And all that said, I'm ready to get off this darn island and away from overkill. Horray! ;-)
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Huzzah!
Ezren's grateful for the assistance, Radovan. :D
As for the post-game card cleanup:
As for the Card Upgrade, my preferences are as follows:
The Binder's Tome is a powerful item that can be simply revealed to add 1d4 to any combat or Charisma check at my location, so Ezren will helpfully provide a small bonus to everyone at his location in doing so. The biggest limitation is that it won't work on Mental-immune banes. It can also help Ezren evade encounters if necessary.

Bury this card to evade your encounter.
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
If someone else desires the Item 1, my second choice will be the Item B Spellguard Bracers.
My roll for Item 1, if necessary: 1d1000 ⇒ 204
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
For Scenario 4-P1...
For Ezren's Skill Feat, he will once again choose Intelligence, getting Intelligence [X]+2.
For Ezren's Card Upgrade, my preferences are as follows:
If either of the AD2 cards are left unpicked (seems unlikely to me, but still), then I'll pick any of them up over my Item B, in case they're helpful if/when I substitute in another character.
I am, of course, greatly interested in the scenario loot Deathgrip, but I personally feel that it makes more sense to go to Zarlova. She can re-use attack spells rapidly, and has a finite selection of powerful attack spells in her Class Deck. I usually am happy to just re-use my preciousssss my Hungering Staff. Perhaps Ezren can take the Spell 1 and she can take the Loot, if Zarlova's happy with that?

Vika - Maelwys |
Skill Feat - Strength +1
Deck Upgrade - either Armor 2 or Weapon 2. I'll want both eventually, so I'm happy to take either one now. If nobody else is taking the Armor, I'll go for that. If somebody else wants it, I'm just as happy with the Weapon.
(for the record: Armor 2 will be Four-Mirrored Armor; Weapon 2 will be Warhammer +2)
ACG - Zarlova |
For Scenario 4-P1...
For Ezren's Skill Feat, he will once again choose Intelligence, getting Intelligence [X]+2.
For Ezren's Card Upgrade, my preferences are as follows:
Spell 1: Replace Black Spot for Locate Object (Ultimate Magic Add-On)
Item B: Replace Flame Staff for Spellguard Bracers (Hell's Vengeance 2) If either of the AD2 cards are left unpicked (seems unlikely to me, but still), then I'll pick any of them up over my Item B, in case they're helpful if/when I substitute in another character.

You're welcome to the Spell 1 upgrade. Deathgrip will work nicely in my deck.
I'll take Another +1 to Wisdom as my skill feat.
ACG - Radovan |
Radovan will take a Weapon 2. I'll figure out what upgrade it is tonight.
For skill feat Strength +1
Vika - Maelwys |
No new feats, since it was a replay.
Card upgrade - Weapon 2 (Warhammer +2) as previously agreed.
Loot - I'm interested in the new Ally, if nobody else is. But only if the next version of the scenario doesn't still have the anti-Ally rule.
ACG - Zarlova |
I'll let Ezren have the spell 2 and I'll take the spell 1 update (Life Drain)
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Don't forget that players can take Card Upgrades solely to record for future deckbuilding (even if they don't change their current deck), if they want to substitute in a Hell's Vengeance character.
For Ezren's Card Upgrade, he will take:
Spell 2 (Lightning Bolt): Replace Viper Strike for Glamour (Hell's Vengeance 2)
Magic
Arcane
Powers
Display this card next to a character's deck. While displayed, treat your character card as if it has that character's skills in addition to your own. At the end of the turn, if you do not have the Arcane skill, banish this card; otherwise, discard it, or you may succeed at an Arcane 8 check to recharge it instead.
Note that there's a lot of interesting strategies with this spell. Among it's endless series of uses, some things to note:
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Small interest in the Ally 1, but anyone else can feel free to take it if they want. I've got other upgrades to pick, for use with future Hell's Vengeance substitute characters, if I so desire.
Vika - Maelwys |
Since I've already got two deck 2 upgrades, I'll let Hayato have the Weapon 2 this time, and I'll take the Weapon 1 (assuming no others need a weapon upgrade, at least).
Weapon 1 -> Shock Glaive +1
Blessing B -> Blessing of Gorum
Also, when I randomly picked up that Ooze Falchion in a previous scenario, I'd been disappointed that there was no "or discard to add elemental damage" option on it... and completely missed the fact that it ALWAYS does elemental damage, even if not discarded. So, that's kinda awesome, and somebody should use that (and if nobody else wants it, I will).
Linxia - Substitute Character |
Linxia cracks the knuckles on each fist, her face betraying no emotion. And yet, there is a chilling, unbreakable will behind her good eye, a merciless resolve that somehow feels colder and emptier than her blind eye ever could match.
"Muhlia al-Jakri." She speaks softly, as if tasting the words as they leave her lips; cracked and bloody from the fight. She doesn't appear to notice.
"He will pay."
---
So I don't actually know if I'll ever substitute in characters; depends on the scenarios we come across. But keeping my options open, and I've had fun just making up a deck and such for her.
(Playstyle: Every corrupted card and shield is a free Heal 1. Spam them constantly, particularly the Ultimate Combat "Recharge to boost a combat check" shields, which quickly turn into significantly-better Staves of Minor Healing. Discard every ally and blessing drawn in order to explore, generally; they'll be healed back soon.
Fun fact: "Displaying" a card counts as playing it, as well as actively choosing to use a power on a Displayed card (which generally moves it to a new zone), so cards like Tower Shield have some interesting utility with her.
She can cover Diplomacy and just focus on the ally-heaviest locations at this point. If a scenario calls for Diplomacy checks or repeatedly tanking damage, she may be brought out in Ezren's stead.)

Ezren "His Father's Son" |
If Radovan get's a benefit from the Ally 1, I'll happily let him take it. My own choice of Ally 1 would have been relatively temporary; it would have been the first ally on the chopping block once I get my desired Ally 2.
Instead, I'll pick a card upgrade for use with substitute characters. If the Weapon 2, Weapon 1, Armor 1 and Ally 1 are all claimed, then I'll officially take a Blessing B.
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
For Scenario 4-2A...
For Ezren's Power Feat, he will choose a Hand Size increase, gaining Hand Size [X] 7.
I don't recall the full list of acquired cards, but assuming there's no Spell 1 or Spell 2:
For Ezren's Card Upgrade, my preferences are as follows:
Human
Cleric
Powers
On your check, after the roll, recharge this card to add or subtract 2 from the result.
Discard this card to examine the top 2 cards of your location deck and put them back in any order, then explore your location.
The Cleric of Nethys is an all-around excellent ally, whether to explore with or for the generous recharge ability. The recharge ability is especially relevant during this adventure, as it can triple my odds of being able to 'sweet-spot' an acquired boon and draw a bonus one.
Book
Magic
Powers
While you reset your hand, reveal this card to treat your hand size as 1 higher.
On a character at your location's Wisdom non-combat check, recharge this card to add a die.
The Byzantine Lexicon isn't actually that good for me; I only use Wisdom when I have to to acquire something or beat specific barriers. However, it doesn't take up space in my hand (in a sense), so it helps me with cycling through my deck. Plus, I can use it to support anyone at my location, especially Zarlova if she ever wants help with non-combat Divine checks such as recharging.
Also gives me an Item 2 card upgrade, potentially useful for substitute characters.

Arcane
Divine
Powers
During your turn, bury this card to examine the top card of your location deck. If the card is a blessing or has the Magic trait, you may immediately encounter it.
After playing this card, succeed at an Arcane or Divine 6 check to recharge this card instead of burying it.
Somewhat mediocre. But it's a sometimes-exploration that'll almost always recharge.
ACG - Zarlova |
Z will take:
Power feat: When you acquire a card that has the Magic trait, examine the top ([X ] or bottom) card of your deck; if it is a spell ([X ] or a blessing), you may add it to your hand.
I could use the Ally 2 (Cleric of Nethys or Bound Lantern Archon) or Item 2 (Byzantine Lexicon), but we'll see what everyone else wants before a firm decision.
ACG - Radovan |
Scenario 4-2A
Power Feat - At the start of the scenario, display and 1 devil form ( [X] or 2 devil forms). Once per turn when a character at your location is dealt damage by a bane, display a monster from the box next to a displayed devil form.
I'd like the Ally 2 so I can upgrade Amadi to Shy Ratini
Ally 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 936
Vika - Maelwys |
Power Feat: "When you would discard a weapon or armor for its power, you may recharge it instead."
Card Upgrade: I don't really need any of the options right now, I've done pretty well with my wishlist already. I think I'll just take the Armor 2, for a Kabuto Helmet. I might immediately swap out the Helmet for the Akhentopi's Armor anyway (because with my new power feat, the armor is pretty awesome), but I'm planning to take Armor for my next Card Feat, so this way I'll be all set for when that happens.
Also, although the drippy ooze was lots of fun, I'll be nice and let Hayato have a turn with it now.
BR Mork |
2A reward summary:
Ezren - Item 2, Hand Size [X] 7
Hayato - Armor 2, On your first combat check of your turn, add 1d6 ([X] 1d10)
Radovan - Ally 2, ([X] or 2 devil forms)
Vika - Armor 2, [X]When you would discard a weapon or armor for its power, you may recharge it instead.
Zarlova - Item 2, ([X ] or a blessing)
EDIT: fixed Ezren's upgrade.
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
Just making a correction; Ezren's card upgrade was Item 2. There's only one Ally 2 to be granted, and it's gone to Radovan.
Ezren "His Father's Son" |
For Scenario 4-2B...
(Based on my memory of what was acquired; haven't seen the full list of options yet.)
For Ezren's Card Upgrade, my preferences are as follows:
ACG - Zarlova |
I could use it, but I really need the slot more than the spell right now, so I think I'll take a blessing 2 (blessing of Milani) if no one else stakes a claim.
ACG - Radovan |
2B upgrade preferences:
Blessing 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 289
If doesn't work out I'm good with no upgrades this time.
As my remaining upgrades I'm looking at are Blessing 1 and Blessing 2.
Maybe Weapon 1 but I may want to keep the kama given the acrobatics.
Vika - Maelwys |
I'd really like a Blessing 2, because I think the Blessing of Angradd is great. (2 dice to barriers which often cause me problems, and recharges off any basic, PLUS it gives 2 dice to fire, which can boost Radovan if needed; just no explore which is too bad).
If not, a Blessing 1 (Blessing of Abadar, again for Barriers, without the recharge but has an explore at least).
If not either of those, then I'll take an Item 2. Though I looked at my Item 2s again, and the one I was considering (Hat of Glamour) isn't nearly as good as I thought it was, because it discards at end of turn (I was thinking it stayed displayed for longer). So... I'm less enthused about that one, now. And might just use the upgrade as an Item 1 for a Staff of Minor Healing instead.
Blessing 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 979
Blessing 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 33
Item 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 14
ACG - Zarlova |
Blessing 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 479
Blessing 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 434
Actually, blessing 1 doesn't do much. I'll take a base blessi g and do a spellbound from the UM deck.
