Five new squad members are summoned to the precinct office. Some kind of new storefront is under construction down the street. You enter the station, let by a rotund red-faced officer with the unfortunate name of Chubb. "Commander Duncan Griff", he announces. Griff looks strangely familiar as you realize he was the bartender from across the street. Griff smiles as recognition dawns. "You can learn a lot about a person when they don't know they are being watched. Lesson Number One. You've all been selected for this job because you're the best..." He flips through the stack of applications. "...because you were available. Never mind that. We've had some unrest in this city. Established citizens not liking all the newcomers. Newcomers feeling like they aren't represented. Well, this is a prosperous city. It's a busy city. But a city's only as good as its laws. And the laws are only good as long as they are respected. So that's where you come in. We're the new face of the city watch. We're going to show that anybody who comes here, and respects the laws, and is willing to work, has a place in this city. We want everyone to trust the Watch, from the nobles down to the dirtiest goblin at the city dump. Because that's the best way to keep order."
"You'll get assigned to patrols soon enough, but first you have to complete some basic training. You each need to study this." He plops down a book big enough for a halfling to use for weight training. "Laws and Regulations of the City of Absalom, with Official Procedures", it reads. "Chubb here will take you to combat training."
Chubb leads you to a training area where he runs you through some procedures on the use of force. "Our first job is to protect the citizens. We can use lethal force when people are threatened, including ourselves, but you don't even want to know the paperwork that creates. Much better to subdue them and arrest them and let the legal system deal with them. Sgt. Osku here is going to give you some instruction." He introduces you to a huge muscled half-orc officer who proceeds to show you some basic techniques for the use of nonlethal force. Then he passes out some padded nightsticks and invites each of you in turn to try to take him down.
d6 nonlethal attack vs. AC 18 or combat maneuver vs. CMD 20
Oz tested the nightstick in his hand, a slight frown on his face. He was not exactly happy about the situation but he was still going to be a watchman and that was good enough for now. He gave his would be companions a slightly wide berth as he was the odd one out in this situation. It was not that he did not trust them so much as he doubted he had much in common with them regardless.
For this portion, the only strictly human member of the unit had grabbed what gear he still owned after an unceremonious removal from his previous posting. Between the sword, shield, bow, chain shirt he was pretty weighed down on his way to this meeting but most of his gear was now stacked in a corner while the Commander had them put through the paces.
He was good at a few things and one of them was putting people on their rumps when the situation called for it. So, after regarding the Sergeant for a minute, Oz stepped in and swung for the ribs without so much as a word of warning. He wanted to give the fellow something to remember him by.
Move Action: Favored Target
Thump: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
THUMP: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Corvus nods approvingly as Oswyn lands a solid blow. He looks at the piles of gear people have shed and instead checks the straps holing his own gear in place. He ran for to long and old habits die hard.
When it is his turn in the ring he steps in carefully and circles with the 1/2 Orc for a moment looking for an opportunity. When none presents itself he decides to make his own and strikes in towards the spot where Oswyn's blow was raising a red welt.
Feint: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Spinning quickly away He attacks front the other side.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 5
This is two or three rounds depending how you look at it so if the 1/2 orc is playing at more than target dummy there should be at least one attack against mt standard AC (18) and possibly one against a full defense AC (22) as I circle looking for an opening. I figured the point here was to demonstrate skills so it seemed appropriate
Everest holds the book in one hand, and the nightstick in the other. Giving it a long look, he shrugs. The mechanical man watches both of the other recruits assault the half-orc with unchanging features, and then applauds the book and the rod together as they both give it their best effort.
"I will now attempt to bring about the completion of my mission parameters," he announces in an exuberant voice.
"I apologize if this brings harm to you," he says to the half-orc. "I can see where training and old wounds intersect-- there, across your side-- to make a particularly tantalizing target of opportunity and am very keen on impressing you through physical posturization."
"Again-- apologies. This may sting."
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
I suppose I should specify that the sneak attack dmg be non-leathal via the Worth More Alive class feature

Oz gets in a solid blow. Osku retaliates with a trip attempt...
trip: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 Improved trip
landing him flat on the ground.
The half orc nods and waits for Corvus.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
He easily sees through the winged man's distraction and dodges the right way, but Corvus still manages to land a hit.
trip: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Corvus sees the leg sweep coming and deftly avoids it by leaping.
The android's strike lands with studied precision.
trip: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
but the sergeant retaliates and leaves him in the floor with a clatter.
"I can tell that you've all had some training. But there's always more to learn."
He proceeds to instruct you in the defense and use of various combat maneuvers and tricks, and in the application of nonlethal force.
Choose one boon (one time use) now:
* You may make a combat maneuver without provoking an AoO.
* You get +2 to AC or CMD, after the results of a roll have been announced.
* One confirmed critical against you becomes a normal hit.
Equipment: wooden nightstick (not padded as I said earlier) d6 (d3 tiny) weapon, nonlethal damage. To be carried in addition to your normal weapon(s).
Corvus swaps the sap hanging at his belt for the night stick and slides the sap behind his belt at the back.
Thank you Sargent. Training always helps.
I added the AC boon to my alias under special abilities for tracking purposes
