Etiana
|
"Don't you hurt my friend!" Seeing the brute injure her partner, Etiana drops her crossbow, steps to the opening and attempts to aid the brawler in his attacks.
FA: 5' step, drop crossbow. MA: Draw whip. SA: Aid brawler: +4 on next attack roll.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
| GM Rutseg |
Etiana starts forcing the ape-like to focus much attention on her by successfully attacking his breast, giving Yakanzi a better opportunity to fight the creature.
Foe: 12 damage
Round 2:
Xoricon, Yakanzi, Ragnar, Shagruk, Etiana, Foes
Waiting for the rest of the party to act (bolded ones)
Yakanzi
|
Yakanzi will spend a move action to temporarily learn Improved Grapple and then grapple the opponent in front of him. no clue if invisibility helps him in this endeavor
grapple: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
Ragnar Pathclearer
|
Ragnar will then drop his bow and move up to Yakanzi and attempt to non-lethally club the Ape-affected fellow (not Yakanzi)
Longsword non-lethal attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 101d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
I'm not sure what bonuses i'll get for the opponent being Grappled so GM if you will add to my attack roll please
| GM Rutseg |
The invisible Yakanzi easily grapples the ape-like without much problem under the thing surprise by not seeing him. The attack makes the Mwangi brawler visible.
Ragnar tries to hit the bestial creature but even with the clumsiness of being grappled, it is able to dodge the attack in the last moment. AC 11 while grappled sorry!
The creature tries to slam his grappler with a direct punch to the head.
Slam-Grappled: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 2 = 12
Bludgeoing damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The man though dodges the punch with ease as he maintains the grapple.
Foe: 12 damage
Round 3:
Xoricon, Yakanzi, Ragnar, Shagruk (x2), Etiana, Foes
Ragnar Pathclearer
|
I'll have to include that each time and keep you reading just incase it says target Yakanzi.. ;o)
Ragnar attempts to pacify the brute again
Longsword non-lethal attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 4 = 111d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Etiana
|
Etiana keeps her whip dance in motion, assisting Yakanzi's grapple efforts as best as she can.
Attack/grapple roll if possible, if not, then switch to aid AC. +4 bonus if success.
whip aid Yakanzi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Xoricon Quickblade
|
Xoricon moves and shoots again.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
for: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
Does the Deadly Aim bonus also increase? Anyhow, I think I got 'em...
| GM Rutseg |
Xoricon expert attack strikes the brute stabing an arrow in a lung. As the ape-like goes unconscious in Yakani's arms, the Mists seem to pour out from his mouth and his body comes to a more relaxed and human shape.
Combat is over, feel free to RP and decide where to go next
Etiana
|
Etiana tries to bring the man around while Yakanzi still has control of him, enveloping Xorican in the process for yet another attempt to cure him of his poison woes.
channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2
CL check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
2 Lethal and 2 Nonlethal cured on the man. Does he come to, or do I need another channel?
channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2
CL check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
| GM Rutseg |
The second channel brings the bald man up, he looks around at you, backing himself at your sight clearly scared.
"W-What happened?" he then looks at the fallen body next to him and starts to sob "Oh no! Sheg! Sheg! Who beat your head like that..." he places his head over the fallen half-orc guard and cries inconsolable.
Etiana
|
Etiana rushes over to the sobbing guard, and comforts him as she speaks in a soothing voice. "I am so sorry about your friend."
The cleric of Calistria gives the man a moment to grief, before broaching the subject of the happenings. "We're trying to keep this from happening in the future. Can you help us? What do you remember about your time here?"
Assuming the charming trait applies.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 = 18 Oops. It's 22, not 18. I have a rank here.
| GM Rutseg |
Understanding the party are here to help the guard talks out trying to keep his mourning. He squints to see you, probably lost his glasses, "Sorry, my name is Maldroog. I know nothing about what is going on in the museum. We were enjoying the day, just a person has come so far. He sold out some objects he has said to bring from the Mwangi Expanse. Some time later, this Mists surrounded the whole museum. The last thing I remember is Sheg and me saw Nigel carried away by a host of mad, slavering apes and monkeys. Then everything went black." he looks at Etiana, cristal eyes "Can I go now? I want to go far from this mist and bury my colleague."
Ragnar Pathclearer
|
"Go.. and do your friend honour, but remember it was whoever caused this mist not you than killed him, I to fell victim to the mist, I know you had no control"
Ragnar sheathes his sword, draws his bow and is ready to continue
Xoricon Quickblade
|
"Well, that was mildly helpful. You know, in Taldor, we have windows to let out the bad vapors. Mind you, we need them. Some of those nobles are quite overfond of their broadbeans, if you follow me." Xoricon smooths his beard and looks about. "Well, on to the Honored Dead. Let us up they stay dead and we stay alive, friends."
Etiana
|
Etiana smiles at the bard's playful words, and follows the group towards the Hall. As they move, she eyes the door that supposedly leads to the storage. "Should we have a peek in there, and make sure nothing there that needs our attention?"
| GM Rutseg |
The mists here congeal into a thick and silvery fog that cools the lungs. Arranged throughout this large hall are exhibits on the funerary traditions of several civilizations, along with preserved corpses arrayed in grim stillness.
A giant warrior looms from the haze, his arms crossed at his chest, his helm solemn and still.
Beyond lie sarcophagi of varied designs, and a few glass cases wherein withered dead are held upright by rods and string; grim exhibits of long-dead citizens whose fallen empires were erased an age past.
A placard above this hall reads “The Honored Dead” in blood-red calligraphy.
Etiana
|
The petite cleric peers in from the side of the door, behind the hefty brawler. Her eyes take in the sight of the solemn warrior and the various sarcophagi, and she fights the slight unease within her. "I much prefer the presence and the company of the living to the dead. Didn't the guard say Nigel was taken away by apes and monkeys? Do you think he's still at the office?" Her glance follows her thought over to the right, looking for the door to the office.
Etiana
|
"Hmm, we could use some light. One moment..." The little Etiana loads up her crossbow, calls for Calistria's illumination upon the bolt Light spell, and fires the bolt towards where the map shows the door would be.
Xoricon Quickblade
|
"Is everyone healed up?" says Xoricon with a whisper, still grimacing at the black blood congealing on his person. He gulps as Etiana fires a bolt, and nocks an arrow in preparation for something...anything.
Etiana
|
Satisfied she can see where she's going now, Etiana puts away the crossbow, resumes holding the whip, and waits for her brutishly chivalrous companions to lead the way.
Etiana
|
Did you take the 4 HP of channel healing that happened after the Ape/Viper encounter?
The Calistria cleric flashes a smile at the brawler. "Yes please, Ser Yakanzi. Will you lead us to the office door?"
Xoricon Quickblade
|
"A trip to the office and the…facilities…may be a good plan before we visit the delightful, harmless, and no doubt incredibly welcoming Honored Dead. They will certainly greet us with open arms, open mouths, and open aggression. Office it is," says the Bard.
Etiana
|
I take 20? :)
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Gah, so close!
As the group enters, Etiana waits patiently with Yakanzi, checking his wounds while he is standing there like a statue. After a brief examination, the halfling claric kisses where the wound once was. "There. All better." She looks about, wondering why the big man chose to stop here.
Yakanzi, you took 3 hp damage in that fight. The channel healing from the other room is 30' radius and easily included you, so you are healed back to full. The kiss on the booboo is just the icing on the cake. You can thank Etiana later.
| GM Rutseg |
The event to perceive is instantaneous, thus, if you don't got it the first time, you failed. That means take 20 would not work in this case Etiana.
In order to not set down the action, I will assume you step in the middle of the room at one or other moment (the scenario calls for the action to happen when the party is in the middle of the room).
I will allow you to freely relocate your token 5' from where I have planted it.
Once you carefully reach the centre of the room, the corpses in 4 of the exposition coffins start to move, stand over the coffins and getting out. They are clearly looking at you aggressively.
The farthest one, next to the office door, is a withered, mummified thing from beneath Osirion’s sands bearing a jeweled scarab on its chest among its spiced wrappings, a scarab seer and warrior-priest of an old Pharaonic age.
The creature is a ghoul. An undead able to paralyse with its attacks any victim but elfs. They don't have damage reduction. Undeads can be damaged by positive energy like that one from channel energy or cure spells.
Another is a hulking skeleton, a towering ancestor of the Kellid race who wields a greatclub fashioned from a mammoth’s ivory tusk.
The third is a shrunken, emaciated corpse wrapped in rotten silks, and holding a silvered Qadiran scimitar in its bony fists.
Both creatures are human skeletons, an undead creature. They have damage reduction against any weapon not dealing bludgeoning damage. Undeads can be damaged by positive energy like that one from channel energy or cure spells.
The last one is an armored warrior of a long-dead empire, clad in heavy discolored bronze plates and helm.
A human zombie, an undead creature. They have damage reduction against any weapon not dealing slashing damage. Undeads can be damaged by positive energy like that one from channel energy or cure spells.
Etiana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Yakanzi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Xoricon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Ragnar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Shagruk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Skeletons: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Other foes: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
As the party was advancing carefully the surprise is only mild, Yakanzi even succeeds to react faster than the foes!
Round 1:
Yakanzi, Skeletons, Shagruk, Ragnar, Etiana, Foes
Etiana

I know...just observing it'd take a 20 to make that roll.
First check is auto-fail
Checks 2 and 3: untrained -> max 10
K(religion) 2: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11
K(religion) 3: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Etiana looks at the risen undeads pensively. She manages to recall enough about the skeletal undeads to call out some advice. Pointing to the hulking skeleton and the shrunken, emaciated corpose whose bony fists gave away its character, the halfling cleric warns the party as they prepare to engage. "These two can absorb weapon damage. It's best to try blunt force against them!" Sadly, the servant of Calistria does not carry such instruments by habit, and she eyes the undeads warily as she wonder what she can do to help.
Duh! Just realized I could've taken 10 and made the two untrained checks! Time for a nap, I think.
| GM Rutseg |
Haven't checked, but I think you cannot take 10 on checks while under pressure, even for knowledge ones!
The drawing movement of his morningstar makes Yakanzi miss the balance and fail to hit the skeleton standing in front.
He then listens behind the kellid war chief raising his finely crafted ivory greatclub and stepping down of the coffin ready to hit the Mwangi warrior from it's back!
greatclub+flanking: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7
Bludgeoning damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The attack though is clumsy due to the skeleton poor movement and the ivory head hits the floor, with a resounding Clonk!. That could have easily dropped a normal humanoid.
Similarly, the Qadiran Warlord of Old raises his scimitar and tries to slash the warrior.
scimitar+flanking: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 = 19
Slashing damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Crit. confirmation: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
Slashing damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The old Qadiran warlord still remembers how to move the scimitar, and even the warrior is carefully watching for the incoming attacks, a small slash goes over his defenses by very few.
I will delay the foes for everybody initiative convenience. In that way, Yakanzi can act again before any enemy movement.
Round 1:
Skeletons, Shagruk, Ragnar, Etiana, Yakanzi, Foes

Seeing the poor brawler take the brunt of the assault, the servant of Calistria takes a step away from the combat and begins her whip-dance, attempting to distract the undeads enough to provide Yakanzi more cover.
aid another 4AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Shoot, that has to be against a named opponent. Let's go with the scimitar wielder, since he very obviously hurt the brawler. So, +4AC against scimitar wielder's next attack.
