Osirion Aliens.... who are they?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

hi!

I was reading the Iron Gods adventure path and stumbled upon a blurb talking about alien technology in Osirion. I think that it was also mentioned in the technology guide.

Is there any Osirion specific book talking about who these aliens are? Maybe one of the APs or the Osirion background books?

I'm curious about the various aliens and their technology in the setting :)

cheers!

I'm not sure at the moment whether "Greys" have yet made it into Pathfinder canon (I think they might have been in Bestiary 5 with all the other psilly psychic pstuff), but if so, pulp-fiction stereotype would say it was them.

I think that the Osirion aliens are from the Dark Tapestry. Dominion of the Black, maybe.

They are the:
Dominion of the Black. They even left ticking clocks to them that are counting towards AR 4718(aka 2018 irl year)

Bestiary 5 does have grays though.

Thought so!

Also:
What was I thinking? OF COURSE it would be the Lovecraftians.

Well...:
They are more gieger & 60s scifi than lovecraft really. I mean, they are basically brain stealing, black hole worshipping, conquering multispecie empire that farms flesh. For brains. To use in biological computers.

Okay:
I learned something! That makes sense since given their role in "Doom Comes to Dustpawn," which is intended to be based off '50s-'60s B-movies.

I simplified them a lot, but yay for education xD

But yeah, considering what their tech is capable of doing, they wouldn't be out of place in Doctor Who. Heck, they wouldn't be out of place in Eclipse Phase either.

How is that Geiger? Geiger just designed the bio-technological aesthetic for the Alien franchise. Brain stealing? Mi-gos. Flesh-farming empire? Elder things. Super high tech? Mi-gos, yithians, elder things, et al.

Dominion of the Black is as Lovecraftian as you can get. Alien is heavily influenced by Lovecraft as well - HR Geiger even released a book of paintings that influenced Alien's final look, and it was called (drum-roll) Necronomicon.

By Gieger, I meant the whole biomechanical aesthetic/flavor of them. Though I guess Eox in whole looks even more Gieger.

Ah okay, my bad then. They do certainly have that. It's become a bit difficult to tease Lovecraft's influence from a great number of sci-fi/horror films due to his prolific influence on American filmmakers.

Proper Lovecraft has a strong fantasy edge to it, melded with the science-fiction in a unique fashion. I would consider it quite distinct from Giger, even though his art book (which I've seen in stores) title makes it obvious he drank some from that well.

As far as naming an artist who captures Lovecraft goes, one of the strongest candidates I've heard put forward for that is bitterly-departed Polish master Zdzislaw Beksinski.

{. . .}

Could this be giving us a hint of what one of the 2018 APs will be?

...or SOMETHING.

We've seen Adventure Paths before. It's no surprise when they come out. An Easter egg like that strikes me as an omen of something big.

Really big.

Well, it would be kind of early to find out

Spoiler:
how Golarion disappears . . . .
