Advice

Hello all! Im new to the forum, so i hope i am not overstepping myself or anything of that nature.

Currently I am in a Pathfinder game, Level 14 monk of many styles/monk of the 4 winds. Very fun character. I have played RPGs for a while, but have never dedicated myself to learning all the little tricks of the system, So honestly, i am still a newb, hahaha

But long story short, Our major "ally" is a ancient race called forerunners(not related to halo at all). He was thrown through a rift in time, and we are currently trying to help him recover a soul gem with the souls of his family in it. The forerunners are a race that weaved magic as naturally as a create pumps blood, and thus, are extremely powerful and unique spellcasters. The party found out that a forerunner can not be killed in the typical fashion, Example beheadment, because they have the ability to freely recreate their body even after death and resurrect themselves. Kinda a dick move on my DMs half, but oh well. A forerunner can be "killed" by destroying its soul, or it can be essentially killed by capturing its soul in a soul gem.

My plan is basically to fight and kill our "ally" forerunner, but obviously he can just resurrect himself.
So I turn to you, mighty Role Playing Community of Paizo!!! How can I, a level 14 monk, voy of chains, fasting and poverty, master of Crain, Shiating, Dijnn, and Marid style, and prophet of my respective god(backstory), a major influence in the monk order/temple do to defeat this Forerunner?

Currently my ideas include capturing in a soul gem, but i am not really sure of how to do that.
Also maybe some kind of antimagic field on him? - my worry with this one is that it will disrupt my unique artifact that I use(also caracter history), thus rendering me much weaker.

So any suggestions at all!? thank you so much!

If you can manage to get an daemon of any sort with you that might help. Several of them have the power to absolutely shred souls with no chance at revival. A very low level one is a familiar.

Well...
by chance one of our party members does have familiar/channel that is connected to a deamon of the lowest level of hell whos names makes all within hearing distance go blind for 20 seconds.... It was this deamon that threw the forerunner through time, So i kinda am scared of that, but other deamons who knows, I will look into it.

Anyone else got other suggestions?

I'm not sure about your party makeup, but there's a spell in Book of the Damned, Vol. 3 that might help you out here. It's called summon cacodaemon. Link is here.

Basically, it's summon monster, but it brings a single cacodaemon -- which happens to have the soul lock special ability to create soul gems. You could direct it to use that ability once you/the party gets the forerunner dying or dead.

Of course, summoning the cacodaemon would be require casting an evil spell, so that might be an issue. At that point, I'd be trying to get creative with any NPCs who might be able to help, but my characters are pretty much never LG, so ... getting their help might be an issue, too. :)

Reading the section on daemons, including the stuff about the soul trade, might give you some good insights/ideas:

Stuff from D20PFSRD.com

Thank you for the links, they prove useful, and do give a few ideas.

What about ways outside of deamons? My party is of good alignment, altho we have some darker backstories in some cases.

the party makeup is:
Monk (myself)
A witch specializing in magic items and has a channel with a pwoerful deamon(by mistake a guess?)
A Rage Prophet
Dwarven Claric
and a ranger - no magic at all.

Why are you fighting an ostensible 'ally'? If it's because the DM is just being obnoxious, then I can tell you it doesn't matter what rules you come up with; if it's some sort of pet NPC, then the DM just won't allow it to lose anyway.

Yeah, I was going to ask why you are fighting an "Ally". Might take more effort then finding a simple one trick pony to kill it if its a GM plot npc of some sort.

Yeah, I'd like to ask why you're attempting to kill an ally as well.

Silver Crusade

Yeah, "Why?" is the big thing that's coming up for me too.

If you're wanting your character to stay good, bear in mind that destroying a soul is probably the worst evil one can commit. And dabbling with daemons...well, there's a reason why those guys are the most hated beings in the multiverse. When celestials, devils, and demons are willing to work together against you, you've really crossed some cosmic lines somewhere, and that's where the daemons live 24/7.

There are plenty of options that don't involve damaging/destroying souls or even killing. Petrification, other forms of polymorphing, curses, there are numerous ways to temporarily or permanently disable someone, both merciful and not-so-much.

But again, the question of "why?" matters too.

Polymorph curses? Those exist? Not sure if that works if its a GMPC monster made of magic.

My votes on the guy eventually betraying them so destroying him is a fantastic option.

Sorry i didnt explain why. Long plot, and lots of small details. Also this is not a forsure thing, that i am going to act to kill him. My character is very uncomfortable with the situation and our "ally". Soem of the party shares my feeling, others do not, and some are on the fence.

Basicly the entire situation is very, uncomfortable. He,a supposed very powerful being is hiding make our party run off to do his work, He was considerable weak after being flung through time, so i understand it to a degree. But his good nature, and good claimed intents of bring his family back seem weak. The major city we are put him in do recover, he has magically forced the Inn to be abandoned and is hoarding knowledge of "the future"(our present). It doesnt quite sit right with me.

One point that made me more uncomfortable was when we met with an ancient knowledge bank called the Oracle, Created by the forerunners as a knowledge based "weapon" when we inquired about and history of our ally, it was denied to us. Nothing at all. We have already fought a group of 3 powerful hags to even get to the Oracle, unlocking it for our "allies" use. No level of trust has been formed on his half for us.

Another thing that makes me worry is that he still knew so much about the location of the Oracle and the stone containing his family, after only an hour of coming to our time. It just doesnt seem quite right.

Those are the ingame events that have supported my fear of this "ally"

My character and his motivations also inspire at least a disapproval/want to defeat him

In this game, we replaced the typical gods with roman gods. Monks are all deciples of Mars, AKA war. I love the battle, and my character was blessed by mars and is not considered a prophet basically. Honor and great battles drive me. Defeating the last of a great and powerful race would be a battle to be song of for ages. (this is character motivation, my personal idea would not be to extinct this race, but hey, fun and game changing character idea)
Also the soul gem could be used as a powerful tool for the empire the monks serve under, considering it is filled with the souls of forerunners, very powerful i assume

Overall and simply put, Our ally has done nothing overtly to harm us, but I feel has done so little, and denied us any form of trust, to be suspicious. I am planning for the worse situation.

Obviously some ideas mentioned i can not do, such as demon summoning, and some ideas i will not have knowledge of.

also to note about the "ally" He is a major NPC, one that plot is involved with, he isn't just a pet that our DM likes(although im sure he does like him).

Would spells that prevent healing help? I know there's a few on the witch spell-list.

Hello all! SO! Notable update.

UPDATE:
Our Ally turns out to be a black dragon. A very old and powerful dragon who wants to unleash all his dragon family from a magical soul gem.... in this setting dragons are not color coded for our convenience, so he is not necessarily evil because he is a black dragon. BUT the entire party (now a alcamist, which, prest, ranger, and myself(monk)) agree that bringing dragons back into the world (there have been none since ancient times) is a very very bad idea.

SO I am asking now on what are some generally useful abilities to have, when fighting a dragon?

thank you all!
