[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Fifteenth, Kailin vs. Kirk

Play-by-Post

The newcomers enter their battlefield under the watchful eyes of approximately four peasants, who were too drunk to make it to the dwarf fight. While the crowd isn't currently the most encouraging, victory remains a fun and profitable goal for our gladiators, who steel themselves for combat.

Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Kirk L10. Need initiatives and description.

Male Half-Elf

A tall and lithe half-elf steps out onto the sands, pure white hair falling around his shoulders. A large blue serpent slithers across the ground and takes its place next to him, raising its head up approximately four feet off the ground, while the rest of its body sits coiled below it. Upon both of their brows, a blue glowing rune is etched.

Kailin looks around at the underwhelming audience, but seems mostly uninterested in them. He looks across the field towards his opponent and draws a deadly looking katana before assuming a battle stance. He wears light armor, and a crossbow hangs at his side.

In short, he's got a mwk katana and mwk light crossbow, as well as leather lamellar armor. Sunahl's got nothin' fancy.

GM:
Kailin's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Sunahl's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Assuming we're having them run on different initiative counts now, I'll roll for both.
.
Wow. For having the same modifier, they sure ended up on different counts.
Kailin's got 20 on Initiative, Sunahl is on 5 XD

Kirk enters the Arena with an overconfident smirk. The kind of smartass smirk you tend to hate. He is an 6 ft 3 in tall elf with silver hair, dressed as a common traveler. You can make out something looking like a crossbow on his back, the only armor you can see is a haramaki.
Kirk is accompanied by his miniatur giant space scorpion Uhura (who readies for the fight at k10).

Arbiter:
Initiative:

Kirk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Uhura: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Kirk is on 25, Uhura on 14

Surprise round:

Kirk casts a spell without material components.

Arbiter:

Cast Shield

Kailin's turn :)

[Redacted due to ninja] I believe we decided that animal companions need to start in the squares next to (on either side of, not in front of) the player, but that's not set in stone yet.

I just thought I'd go with "right next to the player" :) nvm it doesn't really matter here, L11 then.

[edit] Sorry, forgot to post something about my appearance: You see 2 Ioun Stones floating about my head. They look like they have already seen their best days. One is Dusty Rose, the other Deep Red.

Male Half-Elf

Can I get more of an understanding on what this miniature giant space scorpion looks like? Is it an actual companion that takes up a square, or a familiar that's on your shoulder or something? I guess more specifically, what size is it? Little confused :P Anyway, though...

::Surprise Round::

GM:
Spellcraft check to identify the spell that was just cast.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
After that, gonna cast Shield on myself.
Watch Kirk's spell also have been shield *eyeroll*

Kailin watches Kirk's spellcasting, before removing one hand from his sword and performing some of his own. A brief flicker of blue light radiates from his hand before vanishing.

Kailin will make a quick spellcraft check on what you cast, as well as cast his own spell. If you want to check it out in turn, DC 16.

Kailin's Spell, Spellcraft DC 16:
It was Shield.

Pretty sure Kailin failed his spellcraft check at 10, and that'll be it for his surprise round.
.
And hey, here we get to see the complicated initiative mechanics of companions. Keeping Kirk, Kailin, Uhura, and Sunahl in order should be fun! XD

Yes, we will see how much the initiative order will bog this fight down. Uhura is a tiny greensting scorpion, I just played too much BGII ;)

Sorry, that spellcraft check does not suffice.
Mine:

Arbiter:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

14 on spellcraft is probably not enough too ;)

Uhura moves to G10

Sunahl's turn

Male Half-Elf

Okay, got it now :P

Sunahl watches the scorpion approach, then simply coils up, head low to the ground.

GM:
Sunahl is going to ready an action. After being shielded by Kailin next turn (in theory), he will charge the tiny scorpion, moving to E11 and with 10 ft reach should be able to get it. Gonna go for a bite/grab. In the meantime though, nothin' terribly fancy.

That'll be all for his turn. Kirk's up.

Kirk just moves to H10 and readies an action.

Arbiter:

Ready Color spray if one of them comes into range

Kailin's turn

Kailin's turn.

Male Half-Elf

Oh boy. Welp, guess we'll see what happens here.

Kailin makes the same motions as before, but this time, presses the blue glow down upon Sunahl's arched back. Unless you have a readied action to counterspell or something. If you want a spellcraft check again, same spell and same DC as before.

At the touch, Sunahl springs forward, racing through the sand, and darting his head forward to bite at the scorpion. Kailin moves forward after the eidolon.

Sunahl's readied action goes off, and he charges to E11, making a bite from 10 feet away at Uhura. After that goes through, Kailin is moving to D10.

GM:
Sunahl's Bite attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Grab, if the Bite hits: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Not sure if Combat maneuvers get a bonus from charging? I guess they are attack rolls... If they do, this is +2 higher.
Constrict Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Damn, probably not going to hit. 12 vs. AC for 6 damage. If that hits (like I said, probably not), then a Natural crit on a CMB check to grapple and inflict 3 more damage.
.
But again, 12 to hit. Yeah. So, after that, Uhura's turn. Sunahl is 10 feet away from her (and threatening that far) at E11. Kailin's at D10.
.
Of course, this is all assuming the readied action doesn't very much mess them up, so... :P

Think I got lucky there...

Spellcraft

Arbiter:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

18 should be enough?

Oh, and you trigger Kirk's readied action. A spray of colors flashes from kirk's hand, Sunahl needs to make a DC 16 will save to not succumb to the colors.

Uhura's actions depend on the outcome of this :)

Male Half-Elf

Blarg, was worried about that. I think Uhura needs to save against that too though, yes?

GM:
Sunahl's Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Darn, 13. He's out like a light.

She's immune to mind effecting :)

Uhura charges at Kailin, move to E10 and attack

Hit:

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

[edit] sorry, forgot she's charging, should be a 19 (1d20+7).[/edit]

One non lethal damage plus poison if hit

Sting—injury; save Fort DC 10; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect sickened for 1 round; cure 1 save.

Do I know what spell that was btw? :)

Male Half-Elf

Ah, sneaky with the mind-affecting. And yes, you made the spellcraft. DC was 16, same spell as above (Shield, specifically).
.
Uhura does not hit however.
.
So anyway... I don't suppose I can shake Sunahl awake as per Sleep?
.
Edit: Also, Kailin's in D10. Can Uhura reach 5 feet? Otherwise, she'd need to move into the same space as him to attack (which would actually provoke an AoO, I think?). Man, tiny creatures are hard to work with.

I don't think so, the spell does not state that. Did an edit on the attack roll btw (sorry, forgot the +2 to hit for the charge).

Color spray dice for Sunahl:
Unconcious, blinded stunned 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
blinded, stunned 1d4 ⇒ 3
stunned 1

(-1 since that was last round)

Kirk gives his color spray another go, move to G10 and cast color spray again (hitting both Kailin and Sunahl)(DC 16 will save).

[edit]did not know tiny creatures hat to enter the same square. They have 0 reach. I would still try to get you staggered though (but I assume that makes little difference since even a 19 probably won't hit you).

Male Half-Elf

Well, hang on a second. First off, did Uhura provoke for moving into Kailin's square? Secondly... Turn order just got all kinds of messed up, didn't it?
.
Kirk
<-Kirk's Initiative went to here, based on Sunahl's?
<-Sunahl's Initiative went to here...
Kailin
Uhura
Sunahl
.
So... Kirk, Sunahl, Kailin, Uhura. Uhura just took her turn, so okay, it should be Kirk's? Yeesh, this is fun to keep track of.
.
Okay, so it is indeed Kirk's turn, and Kailin's gonna need a Will save. Before that though, the charge did let Uhura hit, but I think before that Kailin should have had an attack of opportunity on her, yes? And while I doubt he'll drop her in one hit, I guess it's possible. And then depending on whether he needs to save versus poison and all that or becomes sickened, that'll change other things. So, let's do this one step at a time :P

GM:
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

22 to hit on Uhura, for 6 damage. Is she still up to sting?

I'm pretty sure you are right about the AoO.

from D20 SRD:

Tiny, Diminutive, and Fine Creatures

Very small creatures take up less than 1 square of space. This means that more than one such creature can fit into a single square. A Tiny creature typically occupies a space only 2½ feet across, so four can fit into a single square. Twenty-five Diminutive creatures or 100 Fine creatures can fit into a single square. Creatures that take up less than 1 square of space typically have a natural reach of 0 feet, meaning they can’t reach into adjacent squares. They must enter an opponent’s square to attack in melee. This provokes an attack of opportunity from the opponent. You can attack into your own square if you need to, so you can attack such creatures normally. Since they have no natural reach, they do not threaten the squares around them. You can move past them without provoking attacks of opportunity. They also can’t flank an enemy.

You hit, but 6 damage is not enough to stop the miniature giant space Uhura!

I think you got the initiative right.

Male Half-Elf

Alright, so I'm still taking the sting, and need the fort save.

GM:
Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Successful save (18), so now the Will save (hopefully I can roll as high, cuz this is the important one).

GM:
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Damn, that's probably a failure. Is color spray an enchantment? Because that would actually make a difference. Otherwise, he's out as well, and that's probably it for the match.

Color Spray is an illusion, so both Kailin and Sunahl are unconscious on the sand, Kailin with a scorpion all up in his business.

Spock should roll again for duration.

Male Half-Elf

Welp, Sunahl goes poof then. Unless Kailin can wake up fast and take out Kirk on his own (possible I suppose, but seems unlikely), that's probably all for that.
.
Edit: Man, bonuses to enchantment and immunity to magical sleep, and I still end up knocked out in my first fight via magic XD

I feel kind of sorry because I should never have gotten this far in this fight :(

Color spray dice (same order as before)
2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
1d4 ⇒ 2

Kirk and Uhura start coup de gracing (is that even possible without doing lethal damage?).

[edit]Your elven immunities were really annoying, would have liked to put sleep on you two...
Shall I roll the rest out?

Oh, Spock, just kinda noticed this, but could you make an alias, either specifically for Kirk or for your combatants in general? It's nice to have a place to store description and add a picture.

.

Jeez, how many spells do you know? :P
.
But yeah, may as well roll em out, especially if I'm 'only' knocked out for 3 rounds. Who knows, maybe he can make a comeback (doubtful, but you never know).

Just maxed int lvl 2 elven wizard :)

Ok, counting the unconcious rounds first:

Kailin 2 left, Sunahl 3 left

Kirk move next to kailin, draw his xbow

Kailin 1 left, sunhal 2 left

kirk:
coup de grace kailin

damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 7) = 8
fort save: 18

Uhura helps if nonlethal damage can be used to coup de grace (2x dc 11 fort save plus dc 10 poison then).

Male Half-Elf

Sunahl went poof when Kailin fell unconscious, so that's not important.

GM:
Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Failure on the fort save. He is dead x_x
.
Man, that could have gone better for his first battle. I expected him to have little trouble when this started :P Dice were not liking him for his first match.

Yes, me too. I was just really lucky. And I can't really think of anything that would have helped me against you, a summoner with elven immunities is just really hard to handle for any caster at that level.

Maybe some lvl 2 scrolls. I will have to think about that.

Male Half-Elf

Heh, ideally, I'd have liked you to have been grappled by Sunahl. I expect that would have helped. The fact that you got two color sprays off on them and they both failed didn't help though. Color spray definitely hurts at levels 1 or 2. Weird the way the initiative played out with the readied actions more or less having Kirk go twice in a row (besides Uhura) without Kailin getting a response, but I guess that's how it would work.
.
Ah well, perhaps we'll get a rematch sometime and Kailin can get revenge... or end up incapacitated and put down once more :P

I'd be interested in how that goes. It's quite unlikely the dice are so much against you again, I already did some preparations (and have more DC 16 will saves for you) :)
Thanks for the fun time, I hope it was fun for you too (except for the dice)!

Male Half-Elf

Certainly did. And I'll just have to make sure not to get bogged down with Uhura next time, and go straight for the guy tossing rainbows everywhere :P
