Guys food for thought. Came across this and thought maybe it's interesting to add this? As of now the combat while it's fun is not as realistic as I want it to be lol. Tell me what you think Wounds and Vigor

Garris "The Dragon" |

off to bed for the night, will review wounds and vigor thing tomorrow. I thought it would be bad form to go around taking heads after just wanted to ask, and I would never look the arena, I may pick up a weapon if it seemed somehow beneficial. I was asking mostly for after the fight if we got to claim things from those we slayed or if it were property of their house or what not. oh and yeah I will post questions and stuff here from now on.

Garris "The Dragon" |

Hey so we will be earning some gold right? Can we bet in the arena? Will we get odds? There was a system for arena combat and making odds in The Age of Worms Adventure path. It was 3.5 but had an arena settign around 8th level. I just remember you could use certain skills to go around and possibly raise/lower your odds based on some lying and what not :) but you could be on yourselves. You know b/c you’re not doing enough what some more bookkeeping would be :)

Garris "The Dragon" |

I would be ok with vigor and wounds if that is what everyone wants. Its like star wars. It is a little more realistic.

DM Heterocephalus |

check the gameplay. Titanos is not dead just unconscious.

Aramus, The Brazen Fool |

Again: Raping? Seriously? I've dealt 18 damage all fight. Haven't successfully blinded anyone. This character is terrible in combat...
But he's fun to play! :)
Although, would I be able to change him up a bit, sticking with the dual blade idea? Like, maybe alter feats, maybe even class? Right now, the only thing this guy has going for him is a high perform score, and the fact that he hasn't been hit yet.
Although as soon as he IS hit, I think he's gonna die.

Ariella Moiraine |

I feel like Dragon and Xem are raping things while I creep around the giant patch of rough terrain. But I guess now that I have dudes on me I can do some beating down.

DM Heterocephalus |

Yeah the right terrain is an Ass . Need to coordinate before you launch that again Xem. The players can't reached the enemy lol. Well next time charge in and see how you die Aramus. I could do some killing to boost my morale.
Btw Xem I notice you got a mizu ki trait inside your profile. Are you adding it in your damage rolls? if yes do remove it ;)
Anyway what you guys think of this difficulty level? too easy?

Ariella Moiraine |

This is pretty good I think. Just use the encounter chart to see how much XP you can spend on monsters. I wouldn't give us anything lower than APL+3 encounters since we are double the size of a normal party, and built on 25 point buys. The game is designed for four 15 point buy characters.
Also you should maximize all the enemies HP (ie 4d8+10=42 HP). That way they last longer, but don't do any more damage. Keeps it hard without killing players.

Xem the Cursed One |

I'm taking some hits but I deemed them acceptable risk for the chance to lock down the Girallon and 2 barbarians. The crowds favor will be a reward If I survive all 3.

Garris "The Dragon" |

Hard to tell, in a group environment like this. I was hoping the Bard would have inspire courage. That would be nice :). One on One it came down to who got to hit who first between me and Titanos, but he was a level higher than me so. I'm built pretty well for this type of fighting as is Xem. If Xem and I would fight he would probably win, being staggered for 6 rounds is bad :) when he can deflect the one attack. More bad guys is always better for challenges, but with our low AC even 4 or 6 more barbarians with great weapons could be over the top even if they are level 1. Titanos did his job, I won't be charging any more this fight well most likely, but probably will be more cautious. Animals and magical beast are good additions. Animals usually offer brute force and decent HP. Either way I am having lots of fun I hope you are as well. Balancing encounters is really tough, and the bigger the group the tougher it gets. If you need help let me know. I can make up a couple NPC's you could use as badies just give me the parameters.

DM Heterocephalus |

Lol alright when I run out of ideas I will let you know about those npcs. My Girallon is permanent look down lol. This battle probably is in your hands. try to rake up more kills as it goes into your rooster tally. Btw Garris you may loot Titanos as a move action.

To be honest thanks to you guys I am still managing the book keeping fine.

Treiden Wallace |

Probably too late for this now but it's nice to keep in mind for the future: Area Spell Templates.
I'd say this fight would have been a great deal easier had we actually strategized in or out of combat but it looks like we'll manage to make it out without casualties.
Wounds/Vigor is a really neat variant so I'd say yes.

Garris "The Dragon" |

I don't want to loot in combat seems like bad form. I will definatly claim his MW sword and armor along with his head that I have :)

Xem the Cursed One |

Thanks Dragon. Xem was counting on it but he still wants the beast for himself if possible to show off to the crowd.

Xem the Cursed One |

Plenty of kills to go around...til Dragon gets here.

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

yeah i havent gotten to anything since this damned terrain.

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

and the person i was trying to help wanted to do a solo challenge, so im two turns away from everything else now...

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

ah forgot about those guys 15ft away

Xem the Cursed One |

*Shrugs* Difficult terrain doesn't bother Xem with his style. Xem is an evil dick. This message brought to you by the Burning Orphanarium Orphanage.

Xem the Cursed One |

Also its just a coincidence it keeps Ariella away from him. Yes...coincidence.

Garris "The Dragon" |

Sorry Jobasha the 1 vs 1 was the DM's idea I couldn't say no :) You also could have made it to P24 for a flank with Xem since the DM gave you your round 2 move back.

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

oh ok i will do that then

DM Heterocephalus |

Okie Jobasha I allowed it cos of round 2 refund.

Ariella Moiraine |

If #6 was dead, why is he on the map still? Can you put a big X over the dead ones or something? Hard to make good decisions when the map's not accurate. I also had to move #7 to where you said he moved to flank me last round.

DM Heterocephalus |

Yeah sorry guys cos I cannot update map when I am on my mobile. Need someone with access to help with this base on the summary I posted I will state which enemy died.

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

is the Kyoketsu Shoge just basically an iron hula hoop? just trying to get the imagery right in my head

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

pretty sure that was a kusarigama. unless you mean some other weapon i dont recall, as i dont recall an iron hoop at all in that movie

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

ahhh nevermind i got it. google imaged it. when you said iron hoop in the play thread i was picturing you with a big iron hula hoop

Jobasha "The Jaguar" |

well, they are actually very similar. still pretty cool. i actually almost picked another weapon before i decided to play a catfolk and play up the whole catfolk angle with the claws.

DM Heterocephalus |

Hi some feedback for this round, i think Garris and Xem took all the limelight LOL...and i know some of you are feeling lack luster in character build. Like I mention probably some risk is good for you too, learn to take those risk and get your teamamtes to help you. Now with the ability to level other class beside Gladiator should help you but for those Arcane classes like...bard....magus...cleric...etc due to the limitations in spells and you feel that you wish to choose something more martial then for only u guys yes...change it and let me know.
Also I will make the next fight a little more challenging. This is warm up...LOL...well...I hope it will be more challenging...

Owyn Nakagro |

I'll admit I am thinking that without full plate the point of going sword and board- the increased AC protection- is rather missed. Instead I've just lost a great deal of offensive capability.
But eh, I'll see how things are after the next level where I'll get some nice feats :)

Aramus, The Brazen Fool |

Cool! Sorry that I didn't post last round--I couldn't figure out anything to do. I'll probably post this round, maybe do some inspiration or something, but I'm definitely going to be reworking the character per your allowance.

DM Heterocephalus |

ok let me be specific, this option only apply to Chasik Aramus, Xem as they have non martial former life's. The rest if you...too bad....unless you strongly object.

Ariella Moiraine |

I do want to gripe about the sever maneuver. I have to spend a full round beating on something for it to even have a chance to succeed, and then apparently there's an excellent chance my opponent will be dead before I ever get the chance to sever him (with 7 other PCs going again before me). It's basically only worth it as part of a finishing move, which makes me feel like I wasted a feat on improved sever. Either that or I'll have to follow Dragon around stealing his kills.
Also the reputation roll or -3 thing is harsh. So because I rolled higher on a d3 and have a better reputation it's harder for me to impress the crowd? How does that make sense? Shouldn't the higher your reputation is make it easier to impress the crowd? Or at least less likely to take penalties from them booing you? It just seems completely arbitrary. I could describe the coolest performance ever, then roll a one and be f*cked anyway. Took the fun out of it for me.
--------
I feel like I'm constantly complaining in this thread. It wasn't my intent to join just to start b*tching, but there are a lot of unorthodox rules in play here. I guess I'm just wanting it to be equally fun for everyone. Right now it seems like there's only one type of build that will have fun in this game. Ariella was a bit of a gimmick to begin with, but even her gimmickyness isn't getting a chance to work here. I know it's only been one fight but yeah...hard to feel badass when you did 17 damage in 5 rounds of arena combat.
