I'm not sure I'm catching what you mean.

Biter |

In America, the ground floor of a building IS the 1st floor, the one above that being the 2nd floor.
From what i gather, in England, if you walk into a building off the street, you're generally on the ground floor. Then, if you take an elevator up, you're on the first floor.
Just funny little cultural differences that make things fun.

Sparrow Seacutter |

LOL, I completely misunderstood. I thought you meant the alignment was off or something, not the wording of the floors. That's what had me confused. And yea, I think you might be right on that.

Exactly. I've run across this before, as I'm a fan of Gorgette Heyer's books. It's not relevant to our situation, just, as Biter says, one of those little cultural differences.

Ryu Kaijitsu |

wow, posting goes with high speed o.O
I think i have to take more time for it, sorry for the "lag"
edit: Hungary also has ground floor and 1st floor so I will also use that here if no one objects to it (although the word for "floor" is "emelet" which means "elevation" more or less, so it excludes ground floor automatically, thus one confusion avoided)

Sparrow Seacutter |

I was checking to see if I could understand Biter, and I realized I hadn't done all my languages. I just updated them, giving a heads up.

Sparrow Seacutter |

LOL, glad I'm not the only one. My aunt used to have a room full of porcelain dolls. I remember that room, because she kept the door to it open, and when I walked by to the bathroom, it's like they were all watching me move. Same feeling.

Both 8P
You are both everything Cilyanka is not in terms of appearance.

Cilyanka Caumlo |

"I think me and Cilyanka have a good rivalry going on."
I hope so, makes things interesting.
"I wish I was the one being interacted with more,
but we'll have to see what the future holds."
I'm sure you will be 8)
just a note: as mentioned earlier I never played this campaign before, so a bit more describing of surroundings would be nice now and then :)
You're not the only one. All I really know about RotRL is random comments from the forums.

The_Ninja_DM |

That's why the 'Prelude' I'm doing with Chopper's Isle. i want to get all of you familar with Sandpoint, it's inhabitants and it's past history so we're all on the same page.
If you all want to investigate (i.e. explore the town and meet the locals) before heading out to the Chopper's old home, let me know where you want to go and who you want to meet.

Untrained: You cannot make an untrained Knowledge check with a DC higher than 10. If you have access to an extensive library that covers a specific skill, this limit is removed. The time to make checks using a library, however, increases to 1d4 hours. Particularly complete libraries might even grant a bonus on Knowledge checks in the fields that they cover.
So up to, but no higher, than DC 10. ;p

Sparrow Seacutter |

That I cannot argue with. Buy by golly, if I can try it, I'm doin' it, just in that far off chance!

The_Ninja_DM |

OK, a quick DM update post.
:::IMPORTANT:::
I've been reviewing the point costs of the various races since I got the Advanced Race Guide. I am also aware that certain races are much more powerful than others. So, in order to address the issue and in response to PMs from others who are also legitmately concerned, I've chosen to make a change in the character build setup for this game.
Every character can have a MAX total point value of 35 points including the 20-point buy I originally gave. If your race is over that total, make any changes necessary. If it's below, you now have a few extra points to spend, either on stats or abilities from the Race Guide.
Example: Elves, Gnomes, Goblins = 10 points so those races now have 5 more points.
If you're not sure what your race costs, PM me.

Sparrow Seacutter |

Stats increased abit with the extra points.
Having had a chance to sit down with the ARG now, I figured I'd ask, since it's not too far in, if I could swap out a Racial Trait as well. Specifically Weapon Familiarity for Arcane Focus. This is kind of a something for nothing deal (I lose Elven Curve Blade proficiency for a +2 to Concentration checks), so I understand if not.

That swap should be fine. After all, it's much easier to take a weapon proficiency later than a bonus to a check.

Biter |

Quick question, Spiral. Should we be selecting racial traits from the standard options only? Or can we pick from advanced/monstrous if we can afford them?
It relates to Biter because I'd love to pick up the Fast movement trait -- an advanced trait. It would kick Biter's speed up to 50. Basically I like having this tiny little wrecking ball who moves like a demon… with a speed of 50, he can sneak at nearly everyone else's speed, and can jog along at the speed of most animals and some horses.
If your'e cool with it, here's my choices:
Bite (1 rp): Can't really have a character named Biter without a bite attack. :D
Climb (2 rp): This is just awesomeness. As the consummate scout, climbin-like-a-monkey is just conceptually rockin.
Fast (1 rp): Love mobile combat, especially on a mobile rogue build, especially as the group scout.
Sprinter (1 rp): More on-demand mobility. That's good stuff. :)
I'll modify the char sheet once you approve, Spiral.

I am now afraid of Biter, lol.

I like Biter like that. I'm sure his speed will come in useful.

Gratz, Biter!! Now step 2. Muleback Cords and a goblin harness to pull the wagon of loot with.... Begins sketching plans.

Updated Timeline:
4665 AR: Sandpoint is founded by four families; the Deverins (farmers and brewers), the Kaijitsus (glassmakers and jewlers), the Scarnettis (loggers and millers), and the Valdemars (shipbuilders and carpenters).
4675 AR: Shuichi Kaijitsu dies. Ownership of Glassworks passes to Rokuro Kaijitsu.
4677 AR: Casp Avertin is appointed Sheriff of Sandpoint.
4680 AR: Birth of Amaya Kaijitsu, illegitimate daughter of Lonjiku by a Chelish/Tian woman.
4686 AR: Atsuii Kaijitsu, wife of Lonjiku, gives birth to a half-elven son, to be named Tsuto. She never identifies his biological father and he is raised separately from the family at the Turandarok Academy.
4687 AR: A great storm sweeps the west coast of Avistan, stretching over 1000 miles from Kalsgard to Magnimar. Many lives are lost at sea and through the destruction brought about by the storm surge. During the storm, Brinewall is completely destroyed by unknown forces. Everyone in town vanishes, including Rokuro Kaijitsu. His fleet, carrying his sons, sinks in the storm. Rokuro's wife, believing her entire family dead, commits suicide. Lonjiku survives however, and the ownership of the Glassworks passes to him. Jervis Stoot settles in Sandpoint. At this time, a young aasimar girl is discovered washed up on the beach. She is adopted by Father Ezakien Tobyn, high priest of the Sandpoint Chapel.
4689 AR: Ameiko Kaijitsu, the first of Lonjiku’s legitimate children, is born to Lonjiku and Atsuii.
4702 AR: After a disastrous attempt to reconcile the bad blood between her half-brother Tsuto and her father results in her brother striking her, Ameiko Kaijitsu runs away from home, joining her mother's family in Magnimar.
4705 AR: Lonjiku remarries. His new wife, Natsu Hattori, is the daughter of a business partner from Kalsgard. The now 16 year old Ameiko Kaijitsu leaves home for the second time to take up life as an adventurer with several like-minded youths. Her adventuring career lasts just over a year.
4706 AR: Rich from her adventuring success, Ameiko returns to Sandpoint to purchase an old tavern, “The Rusty Dragon,” and scandalizes her father by becoming a bartender and tavern keeper.
4707 AR: The events of the “Late Unpleasantness” begin, bringing multiple tragedies to Sandpoint. A serial killer known as The Chopper murders 25 victims, including Sheriff Casp Avertin, before being identified as local eccentric artist Jervis Stoot. A great fire sweeps through the town, claiming several lives and destroying much of the northern part of town, including the Sandpoint Chapel. Among the deaths are Father Ezakien Tobyn, his adopted aasimar daughter Nualia. Natsu Kaijitsu, Lonjiku's pregnant young wife, vanishes and is presumed dead.
4710 AR: After the events in Westcrown, Amaya Kaijitsu travels to Varisia and Sandpoint, bringing with her twin daughters. She joins her father at the glassworks.
4712 AR: Current year; the reconstruction of Sandpoint is nearly completed and the new Sandpoint Cathedral is set to be officially dedicated during the Swallowtail Festival.
