If a wizard 1/rogue 2 multiclass character casts the Vanish spell in round 1 and then moves invisibly into position in round 1, can he then get a sneak attack in round 2 (due to invisibility)? Remember the spell lasts for just one round per level and he is level 1. Could he delay his initiative turn in Round 1 to cast it at the end of Round 1, and then revert to his regular initiative turn higher up the order at the start of round 2 to sneak attack before the spell ends at the end of round 2? If that makes sense ... it's doing my head in!

Take Magical Knack, that would give you CL 3 and make it possible. Otherwise what others have said.
You could possibly also quicken (metamagic rod?) or do it with an AoO.

I wouldn't multiclass for vanish. A rogue can take minor magic as rogue talent at level 2, and major magic at level 3 (via Extra Rogue Talent feat). The rogue level is the caster level then - 3 rounds are usually enough.
Two times per day isn't perfect, but you can increase that via elf's favored class bonus or the Talented Magician feat. I'd go for the former - which allows a third use of vanish already at level 3.

Depending upon Wisdom score, you could take ki pool talent at 2nd level and vanishing trick ninja trick at 4th level, and get to cast invisibility with 1 round/level duration as a swift action by spending ki points. (the former is in rogue section of Ultimate Combat, and the later is in ninja section of the same book).

Vanish Is a swift action. You can cast, move AND make 1 attack all on the same turn.
But only works on your spells, cant use wands.
Vanish is a standard action. Ninja's vanishing trick is a swift action.
Nothing prevents using vanish from a wand, though, it has range of touch.
If ur DM allows third party theres a ninja unchained
Vanishing trick is in Ultimate Combat. No need to refer to third party products.

When you delay, your initiative changes permanently. You cannot go back to the original initiative.
