I am currently creating a character that I would like some advice and/ ideas on. Brambles' backstory is that there was a fight at an abandoned farm. Two magic users' spells merged during combat and vectored off course towards a pumpkin. After the battle and the combatants had left, Brambles came to life.
He starts his journey through the world with a desire to research everything and experience life. I gave him the Tome as he likes to write down his findings as he adventures.
I am stuck on a background and potential weapons/gear to give him. Plus, any other advice on stats, skills, etc would be appreciated.

Background - or in this case, fertile ground
usually they're grown by druid types
Leshy on PFWiki
search on "leshy" in AoN
while most people think pumpkin pies are pumpkin - they're actually Hubbard Squash.
As for ability scores, etc - that's all somewhat Class dependent. 20 pt buy is the usual and you can balance out -2 with a score of 12. No matter - avoid scores below 10 as that has lasting impact.
Search Advice for a class you like. You need not follow their racial proclivities. In PF1 there is a reasonable amount of pre-planning.
Consult the Class Guides on ZG.
I've posted several wizard, bard, cleric, and multiclass builds.
In PF1 Thaumaturge has a specific meaning and I don't think that's what you want, but *shrug*.
At first no cash - so just use a staff, sling, obsidian dagger until your first paycheck then you can get a decent weapon. Cold iron and masterwork will set you back about 320gp.

I think you are looking for PF2e Thaumaturge . PF1 doesn't have a thaumaturge class or archetype. The Tome implement.
Marked for forum move.

Look at Seedpod (1st). It's rather mediocre on other classes, but on Thaumaturge it's good because you won't be using two-handed ranged weapons anyway. 1d4+2+Weakness, so 6.5 to start, at range. If that interests you also consider going with Monk, Martial Artist, or Spirit Warrior Archetypes so you only have to pay for Handwraps instead of two weapons. (Spirit Warrior also requires a 6th level feat for this, but its attack routine is arguably stronger. By later levels all three have advantages over each other).
With Seedpod you should be able to Strike every round even while juggling Thaumaturge actions...and making melee enemies spend their actions coming to you. (The alternate path IMO is taking an Archetype that toughens you up/builds your defenses, Champion being the strongest contender IMO.)
I also like Leshy Superstition (1st, take at 5th) if only for Lucky Keepsake (9th). Save bonuses are precious.

As for Thaumaturge Implements & feats themselves, that relies a whole lot on your intentions as well as party composition/roles filled. For example, Scroll Thaumaturgy provides tons of utility, but if your party's packed with casters (or you're in campaign w/ little wealth for consumables) then I'd bypass it. The other contender at 1st is Diverse Lore.
Keep in mind that having a high Charisma will impact your durability a lot as a cost for empowering all the cool abilities based on your class DC. I'd recommend leaning strongly into those abilities as they're what make a Thaumaturge unique (especially if you have a Champion or Cleric in the party to protect you!). On the flip side, the Thaumaturge concept I've worked on ignores Cha and avoids those abilities, becoming a first rate warrior at some cost. (And while I waver on Ancestry, Seedpod keeps Leshy as a main contender!)
So what attracted you to Thaumaturge? Which Implements attract you or mesh with your PC concept? Do you know your party composition or is this for random PFS groups?

Some background ideas:
1) Amnesiac- While it usually applies to those who have lost their memory, Brambles is starting with no memories.
2) Farmhand- Maybe looking at it from an animist perspective where everything has a soul, though not consciousness, maybe he "picked" up things via immersion of being in that field.
3) Herbalist- He understands plants because he is one.
Why do I picture Jack O' Lantern from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy?
As a weapon, it would be a travesty to miss the opportunity to use a rusty sickle (a relic even). Maybe the first farming tool he came across as he came to life.
