Spell Swipe Chain Lightning

Rules Discussion

I have a Magus with the Spell Swipe feat, adjacent to 2 medium sized creatures. Both are adjacent to each other and myself at the start of my turn.

I use Spell Swipe as my 3 actions for the turn, choosing Chain Lightning as the spell. It does not get disrupted. Both attack rolls score a successful hit each target.

Per the limitations on Spell Swipe, is this classed as targeting only 1 enemy (due to the "timing" on the save roll not being simulataneous), and so can only target one of the creatures, and therefore not be eligible to chain to the second target?

Or does it mean that Target A needs to roll to save, and, if it's not a Crit Success, chains to target B, then stops, as it can only target creatures hit by the attack?

I believe it's the latter; I've seen other posts about it which all seem to agree with that opinion, but thought I'd come here for a second opinion.

Thanks.

I would rule that it is the latter aswell, After all the the spell does target more than one creature even if its normally done in sequential order.

Yeah, it is a grey area. I would also allow Chain Lightning to potentially be able to target multiple creatures enough to work with Spell Swipe. We won't actually know if it can target both creatures until after the first one rolls their save. But I am not going to use that to shut down the possibility of having it affect both.
