Counteracting rider effect.

Rules Discussion

Me and my friend tried to find an answer for it but we couldn't. How does counteracting rider effect work or how does counteracting an effect that doesn't have a DC. For example; Sand Sentry's critical hit. When it critically hits, the target is automatically blinded. What is the counteract DC for this one ?

Thank you.

"If you're counteracting an affliction, the DC is in the affliction's stat block. If it's a spell, use the caster's DC. The GM can also calculate a DC based on the target effect's level."
"What you can counteract depends on the check result and the target's counteract rank. If an effect is a spell, its rank is the counteract rank. Otherwise, halve its level and round up to determine its counteract rank (minimum counteract rank 0). If an effect's level is unclear and it came from a creature, halve and round up the creature's level."

I would use the creature's level to calculate the DC and rank of the effect if it doesn't list a DC

To complete the example, the Sand Sentry is level 6. The Rank equivalent of that would be Rank 3. And looking on the DC by level table I am seeing DC 22 for the level 6 creature.

So to Counteract Sand Sentry blindness it would be a Rank 3 effect with a DC of 22.

Not sure I would spend resources to Counteract a blindness effect that only lasts 1 round, but that is irrelevant to the example and the Counteract mechanics.

Thank you both for your answer guys. Me and my friend came to the same conclusion, but we tried to find an offical rule about it but we couldn't. So is this some kinda thing that we "players and gms" decided or is there really offical rule.

No, it's official. Baarogue's post is a quote from the book (hence the quotation marks).
