Evil Eye (Sickened) vs Bloodseeker

Rules Discussion

If a witch casts evil eye on a bloodseeker, it becomes sickened and, per sickened, it is unable to ingest anything. Since conditions from evil eye are hard to clear, it seems like a very powerful application of a cantrip.

It appears RAW, this would be the case? And by extension, any other creature (e.g., vampires) that ingest blood?

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Cognates

I was gonna say vampires are immune to sickened but apparently not.

Yeah a strict reading would say it's really strong against creatures that rely on ingestion. I doubt it's intended but still.

That's actually funny. And maybe even great enough to allow in games.
What would break in campaigns and battles if all biting/eating monsters were fully affected by sickened?

I would allow it.

The creatures could bite, but yeah, Sickened works great if they're trying to eat you/drink your blood. Though I'm unsure how useful this idea is, I enjoy thinking one day I'll land Sickened on a Cave Worm (likely via Will save). Evil Eye does look like the best way to achieve that, being Will and one they can't spend an action to reduce away. Hmm.

It's so rare for the Sickened debuff's restriction on eating and drinking to impact enemies at all, so I would absolutely let it work in this sort of situation.

Sure, there have always been some niche benefits to inflicting sickened, like preventing Swallow Whole.

If a player finally gets to pull out the perfect tool for the job, let them have the moment.

We were a bit surprised that Evil Eye can target monsters that would otherwise be not be affected by effects causing sickened, but so were the skeletons!
Applying sickened to enemies that would swallow you whole is a good way to prevent that.

I still think that sickened vampire is funnier :)

Undead were never immune to sickened. Things like Divine Wrath always worked on them, too.
