Black Powder Knuckle Dusters - Plural?

Rules Discussion

So, been searching online and here in the forums, as I'm not very active here and I didn't want to rehash an old discussion/question...

However, RAW, it appears that Black Powder Knuckle Dusters grant you a matched set of weapons, as opposed to a single weapon.

PFS Standard
Black Powder Knuckle Dusters
Uncommon Combination
Source Guns & Gears pg. 159 2.0
PFS Note All Pathfinder Society agents have access to all uncommon weapons, ammunition, and related items from Chapter 4
Access The following regions have access to firearms: Alkenstar, Dongun Hold, Tian Xia, Vudra, Arcadia, Ustalav, the Shackles
Price 8 gp; Bulk L
Hands 1
Category Martial
This pair of knuckle dusters is fitted with an explosive charge of black powder within the hollowed spikes of the weapon and a firing mechanism you hold in your hand while in use.

vs the base weapon, a knuckle duster:

PFS Standard
Knuckle Duster
Agile Free-Hand Monk
Source Guns & Gears pg. 152 2.0
PFS Note All Pathfinder Society agents have access to all uncommon weapons, ammunition, and related items from Chapter 4
Price 3 sp; Damage 1d4 B; Bulk L
Hands 1
Type Melee; Category Simple; Group Brawling
This bit of hardened metal, favored by street toughs, is typically made of brass and features four finger holes so that it can sit atop the knuckles, adding extra power to a punch.

If that is the case, are they linked with regard to rune enhancement or separate? Do they allow for two ranged attacks before reloading, or just one? Does the reload action reload the whole item (getting two shots back) or just 1 of the two?

I can't seem to find a conclusive answer on this anywhere, nor similar/parallel examples.

Thanks in advance for any clarity or additional information y'all are able and willing to give.

I'd chalk this up to sloppy editting, every weapon listed in the table is one weapon, not two. If you want to dual wield Black Powder Knuckle Dusters you have to buy 2, same as any other weapon.

I'd completely agree with you; however, this pluralization has survived printing in 2021, errata in 2024, remastery with reprinting in 2025, and errata again in 2026. I'd like to think that it had been noticed before now...

However, after going through all the pluralized weapons available (that I found), there are some marked inconsistencies in the grammar, and whether a weapon is part of a set or not:

Knuckle Duster: Singular throughout entry, no quantity specified in price.
Black Powder Knuckle Dusters: Plural name, plural "pair of knuckle dusters" "hollowed spikes of the weapon", no quantity specified in price, quantity specified in description.
Shield Spikes: Plural throughout entry, no quantity specified in price.
Reinforced Frame: Singular name, plural "chair's wheels have been reinforced", singular "wheel Strike" "Your wheel deals" "reinforced wheel is a simple melee weapon", plural "etch weapon runes onto reinforced wheels", no quantity specified in price (nor do wheelchairs specify how many wheels they have).
Wheel Blades: Plural name, plural "A set of large blades have been attached to your chair's wheels", singular "wheel blade Strike" "Your wheel blade deals" "wheel blade is a simple melee weapon", plural "etch weapon runes onto wheel blades", no quantity specified in price.
Wheel Spikes: Plural name, plural "A set of thick, sharp spikes have been attached to your chair's wheels", singular "wheel spike Strike" "Your wheel spike deals" "wheel spike is a simple melee weapon", plural "etch weapon runes onto wheel spikes", no quantity specified in price.
Arrows: Plural name, plural "projectiles are the ammunition", singular "shaft of an arrow" "It is stabilized", quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).
Backpack Ballista Bolts: Plural name, no description in table or OGL Guns & Gears (I don't have access to the ORC version), quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).
Backpack Catapult Stone: Plural name, no description in table or OGL Guns & Gears (I don't have access to the ORC version), quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).
Blowgun Darts: Plural throughout entry, quantity specified in price (10/5 cp).
Bolts: Plural throughout entry, quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).
Firearm Ammunition (10 rounds): Quantity specified in name, plural "10 rounds", singular "round of ammo can vary", plural "rounds of firearm ammunition" "Firearm rounds are a valid option for magical ammunition" "Crafting magical firearm ammunition".
Firearm Ammunition (5 rounds): Quantity specified in name, plural "5 rounds", singular "round of ammo can vary", plural "rounds of firearm ammunition" "Firearm rounds are a valid option for magical ammunition" "Crafting magical firearm ammunition".
Phalanx Piercer Bolts: Plural name, singular "Heavy, iron-shod bolt.", quantity specified in price (5/1 sp).
Sling Bullets: Plural throughout entry, quantity specified in price (10/1 cp).
Spray Pellet: Singular name, singular "Specially prepared packet", quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).
Sun Shot: Singular/plural name, plural "small metal bullets", double plural "sun shots" "bundle of 10 sun shots", quantity specified in price (10/1 sp) and description.
Wooden Taws: Plural name, no description in table, quantity specified in price (10/1 sp).

Some bits of note:
Knuckle Duster is singular throughout the entry, the Black Powder Knuckle Dusters are plural throughout the entry.
Blowgun Darts and Sling Bullets can't be broken down to an individual item cost, as the unit cost is 1 cp, and PF2 doesn't have currency values below that. Everything else can be simplified to an individual unit of ammo for cost (most 1 cp per item, Phalanx Piercer Bolts are 2 cp per, and some firearms require ammuntion that costs 2 cp per round).
There is precedence for quantity being in the description, as Sun Shot was released prior to Black Powder Knuckle Dusters.

In summation, the entries noted here may not be exhaustive, but do present an unfortunate pattern of grammatical or descriptive inconsistency that can muddle understanding and bring dissonance between RAW and RAI. Rectifying or clarifying these issues would be beneficial for clarity and ease of understanding.

Finally, still wondering if there's something I've overlooked that provides a definitive answer to my initial questions.

Liberty's Edge

The Black Powder Knuckle Duster is a single weapon (Hands 1). It's just that they seem to always sell 2 of them for 8 gp.

Could be different people making the entries: knuckle-dusters is commonly used for singular items, like brass knuckles, so it's not surprising that they didn't change it or think of it as sloppy editing: the editor/checker might fall on the side of using the s on the end.
