Areas are 3-dimensional. A 30' burst placed 30' above the ground would only reach the ground squares directly under the burst's center. You can place the burst closer to the ground to increase the area gravity well reaches but of course that will reduce the potential fall damage. And that's assuming you have a GM who runs gravity well in a way that allows it to move creatures into the air even if they lack flight

Most GMs will probably deny you. Ask yours to be sure

Third thing - yes, Gravity Well can drag creatures into Carrion Mire. If you are concerned with it not saying words 'pull' and 'push' - don't be. It obviously pulling creatures. Arguing otherwise is pointless frankly. Though you still probably could find GMs saying otherwise.
As for pulling into air - yes, when the ability very explicitly calls itself forced movement and it has explicit restriction for modes of movement I am compelled not to allow throwing creatures into air. Guess the spell just isn't strong enough to do that.

Another option that has fewer rules hoops to go through:
Cast Gravity Well in the area of the Carrion Mire spell before the enemy leaves it - making it harder for them to successfully leave.
Combine further with Mud Pit to make the area difficult terrain as well. Though you are probably looking at needing a couple of spellcasters to get that going in any reasonable amount of time during combat.

Another thing to remember with ideas like this one is that the GM can do the same thing to the PCs! If your GM does allow this - and I do not think I would, but your GM might - you can't complain if it happens to you.
GM Core recommends giving additional XP for environmental effects that make the encounter tougher. Cliffs that one could be Shoved off of come to mind. I might liken that to a level 9 bottomless pit for the purpose of XP calculation, provided the cliff is tall enough to cause instant death.

Ehm :) Here we have a problem: Gravity Well is not only not a 'well' but a sphere, but also it's an instant spell. So it's more like "(short-lived) Gravity anomaly", "Burst of gravitation", or "Burst of attraction".
Though maybe you didn't mean it was a continuous spell... After all it's harder to leave when you are closer to the center and have further to go.
