Vat-Grown Brain

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have a question about Vat-Grown Brain.

Quote:
When the vat-grown brain is activated, it attempts to counteract one condition of your choice that was gained from an ability with the mental trait, which it does by drawing the negative mental impressions into itself.

Is it the following conditions ?

- Confused
- Controlled
- Fascinated
- Fleeing
- Frightened
- Stunned
- Stupefied

It is an alchemical item.

Quote:
The vat-grown brain has a counteract level of 5 and a +17 modifier on the roll.

Is it possible for an alchemist to improve the counteract level and the modifier on the roll ?

Thanks for your future answer.

It counteracts one condition, any condition, of your choice.

The only caveat is that the source of the condition must've had the mental trait, You could counteract the Clumsy from Synethesia for example.
----------

An alchemist cannot improve the counteract level or roll from what I am aware, Their Powerful Alchemy feat is purely for saving throws.

Regarding conditions, none of them specifically have the mental trait on their own.

You have to look at the source that inflicted the condition.

For example, the Confusion spell causes the confused condition and has the mental trait.
A vescavor swarm also can cause confused with its Maddening Gibbers ability, which also has the mental trait.
It is possible to imagine some source of confusion that doesn't have the mental trait, though I was attempting to do so and came up empty handed.

Edit: Hey I just found an example, not of confused but the Brain Worms disease inflict stupefied and doesn't have the mental tag. So while it inflicts a condition that is commonly associated with the mental tag, it doesn't have the tag and thus you couldn't use vat-grown brain on it.
