Red Mantis Archetype

Pathfinder Society

Grand Archive 1/5 **

So curiousity question. Now that there is no alignments in PFS2, is the Red Mantis Archetype allowed to be used in organized play? If not, why even have the archetype to tease me? lol. Also, when are we getting our Ninja class back? Please!!!!

1. From Lost Omens World Guide, it is still marked restricted on the Character Options Page, so is still not available without some boon saying otherwise. (I think there was a charity auction boon.)

2. The reprint is in an adventure. As usual, the adventure doesn't have sanctioning in the way that a rulebook does, so nothing from it is available without some boon saying otherwise.

3. I'm sure it's a joke, but for the sake of completeness, the point in having it is that the system isnt written just for organized play.

4. There's been nothing suggesting that ninja as a class is coming, in any book that has been announced but it isn't hard to get a ninja working from a rogue or monk class base and a bit of archetype use.

Assassinations are still generally counter to the Pathfinder Society's tenets, so it's unlikely Red Mantis characters will be widely available for Society play.

Pretty sure there is a boon from a scenario/ module that allows you to play a Red Mantis though.

Ninja would likely become a dedication if they went through with one, though since it wasn't in the Tian Xia Character Guide, I wouldn't hold my breath. To be fair, you can build a perfect ninja with a rogue.

The Red Mantis character was an auction Charity Boon in PFs 1e. I knew someone who paid an arm and a leg for one at Gen Con.

So you might only see it as an auction Charity Boon at major conventions like Gen Con...

While not every archetype is available in PFS, and some others are only given out very sparingly via Charity Boons, the society has had an awful lot of Red Mantis Assassins join of late. If you're interested in playing one yourself, perhaps you should explore some Red Mantis themed adventures...

And yet the Assassin archetype is PFS standard. So, double standard then for the Red Mantis?

The organizations are very much enemies. Pretty sure there's standing orders to terminate any Pathfinder found in Ilizmagorti, after all.

Even though I personally find the Assassin archetype iffy, it has no edicts/ anathema counter to the edicts and goals of the Pathfinder Society. And a Squark mentioned, Society agents are considered enemies of the Red Mantis. That there seems to be "positive" interaction at all in an upcoming scenario is exceptional.

So you don't stand by your previous statement. Gotcha. So while "Assassinations are still generally counter to the Pathfinder Society's tenets" being an assassin via the assassin archetype "has no edicts/ anathema counter to the edicts and goals of the Pathfinder Society."

Yep, those two quotes don't run counter to each other at all. No siree.
