Rituals and creatures

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have a question about creatures with ritual abilities.

Ghaele CR13 : Divine Rituals DC 33; 5th resurrect

Yamaraj CR 20 : Rituals DC 44; 5th call spirit, resurrect

1/Is it possible for a ghaele or a yamaraj to cast an heightened version of the ressurect ritual ?

2/ If a character didn't have the ritualist archetype, the character doesn't learn a ritual, is it right ? If no, can you quote the rule where it indicated this ?

3/ Is it possible for a character to have the ritualist dedication and the following feat :
Thaumaturgic Ritualist ? How many can the character know with the archetype and the feat in total ?

Quote:
At 8th level and every 4 levels thereafter, you learn another uncommon ritual with a level no higher than half your level and for which you meet the prerequisites.

Does it upgrade as the ritualist archetype ?

ritualist : 2+2(8th)+2(12th)+2(16th)+2(20th)
thaumaturgic ritualist : 2+1-2(8th)+1-2(12th)+1-2(16th)+1-2(20th)
Total : 16-20 ?

Thanks for our future answer.

Sure. Rituals don't need to be relearning at different ranks to heighten them.

2/ If a character didn't have the ritualist archetype, the character doesn't learn a ritual, is it right ? If no, can you quote the rule where it indicated this ?

No, there is no rule that says this. I can't quote rules that don't exist. HOWEVER, the opportunity to learn rituals is in the GM's hands. Thise feats (which requires GM approval) are the only player build option, and the rarity on all rituals still leaves what rituals you can learn to to the GM.

The rules specific to learning rituals are just "Learning a ritual does not count against any limits on spells in your spell repertoire or on any other normal spellcasting ability. Rituals are never common, though if you look hard, you can probably find someone who can perform an uncommon ritual for you. They may still be unwilling to teach it to you."

3/ Is it possible for a character to have the ritualist dedication and the following feat :
Thaumaturgic Ritualist ? How many can the character know with

Yes, you could have both. Each one works normally. They don't change each other. There isn't a limit to how many rituals you could know, because it depends on whether you come across opportunities to learn others.

For #2, some examples:

A GM in a game I am playing in has been very hesitant to let us learn any rituals at all. They really aren't necessary for the plot and the GM doesn't want to distract from the plot of the campaign for us to go around searching out people to teach us rituals.

And that is perfectly reasonable. There also isn't much of anything that we can do as players to force the issue. And that is also working as intended. Rituals are all Uncommon for this reason.

A different game that I am in, the GM had us searching for a particular book. In this book was instructions for 4 different custom homebrew Rituals. We then had the opportunity to pick one and cast it before an NPC enemy arrived and a final showdown battle starts.

And that is also fine. That is also Ritual rules working as intended.

In both cases, none of the characters have the Ritualist archetype.
