Taking Archetype feats for non listed levels

I’m a little unclear if you can take archetype feats on levels which aren’t listed. For example, the Bard Class Archetype has 2 Level 8 feats and no Level 10 feats. Could I take a lower level archetype feat instead of a class feat when I reach level 10, or can I not take the archetype feat because there is no option at that level?

Also, if an archetype caps it’s feats at a certain level, say Level 14, does that mean I cannot choose any more of the available feats at Level 16, 18, and/or 20?

You can always fill a feat slot with a lower level feat. As long as you meet the requirements of the feat and it is a feat of the correct type.

For the example of Bard Archetype at level 10, you could take the other level 8 feat that you didn't take at level 8, or you could take Advanced Muse's Whispers again (since that feat allows being picked multiple times) and get another Bard Class feat.

This also applies to base class Bard. You don't have to be Human and take Natural Ambition in order to have a level 1 class feat available to take Hymn of Healing. You can take that level 1 feat in your level 2 Class feat slot.

Something that is more debated is if you can put archetype skill feats into a Free Archetype feat slot or if those are exclusively archetype class feat slots and archetype skill feats are the wrong type. For that you will have to check with your GM.
