Doprillu

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have some questions about doprillu.

1) Fist first attack : + 30 -> improved grab (no penalty) : Athletics + 30
2) If grabbed, body strike or whirlwind throw : + 26 (or + 30) ?
3/ After that Strike, the doprillu can hurl the grabbed creature up to 50 feet as a ranged Strike. This Strike has the same attack modifier and damage as Body Strike, but has the thrown 20 feet weapon trait.+ 22 ? whats means thrown 20 feet for attacks (penalty for increment) or damage roll (strength bonus) ?

Thanks for your future answer.

1) Yes.

2) Body Strike is a melee attack and does not have the agile trait, so the base attack bonus is +30, but doing it as a second attack of the round will have the full -5 MAP penalty. So +25 at that point. Body Strike would deal 3d8+16 damage to the target of the attack (a different creature than the one grabbed by my ruling) and deal half that rolled value to the grabbed creature.

3) Whirlwind Throw behaves a lot like a multi-attack Body Strike. It does Body Strike attack against every creature in its 10 foot Body Strike attack reach, then makes a ranged Body Strike attack against one creature. All of these have the same MAP stage, so +25 as a second attack. The ranged Body Strike attack acts like a thrown weapon attack with a 20 foot range increment. So it could target a creature 45 feet away, but would take another -4 penalty to the attack bonus.

Some things that I am seeing as unspecified and how I would rule them:

I don't think that you can target the same grabbed creature with Body Strike or Whirlwind Throw even though it is technically also a creature within reach.

I expect that Whirlwind Throw also deals half damage to the grabbed creature each time that it damages another creature, including on the final thrown Body Strike attack of that move.

Whirlwind Throw does not have any rules about counting as two attacks for purpose of MAP progression (I expect this on PC multi-attack abilities, but I am not so sure that is common or expected on NPC multi-attack abilities). So if the Doprillu starts the round with a creature grabbed and uses Whirlwind Throw as the first attack of the round, MAP would only progress by one stage and the Doprillu could make a fist Strike with their third action at only a -5 penalty. The free action Improved Grab would also have the MAP penalty since the Grab Subordinate Action has the attack trait.
