Level 20 in a long campaign

Rules Discussion

I'm running a huge campaign that should take years...my players are already level 10.

Is there any alternative rules in place what happens after a character reaches 20?

Any advice? How can players still advance at level 20? Any form of prestige levels?

There are not post-20 progression rules in place, no.

There will be mythic progression in the War of Immortals book this autumn. How this would work I have no idea though.

All classes have a few level 20 feats, and progression is pretty formulaic. You can extend things a few levels of you need to. "Venturing past the level cap" isn't likely to provide a better experience, though. I'd recommend finding more story-based rewards, or talking with players about how they'd want to handle it.

There are other options for extending the length of a campaign. The most obvious is to just slow down leveling progression; your players may or may not like the slower pace though. The other is to introduce lower level PCs that tackle lower level challenges in the same campaign, and have the players alternate between which PC they’re playing. This makes the most sense in a West Marches style campaign, but even in a more standard campaign it can provide a nice change of pace for players who might get bored of playing the same character for years.

You can always give them more levels, and continue the classes feat progression as normal. but they wont get anything more around that, so as QuidEst said maybe add in some other rewards in the story or something.
