Horizon Thunder Sphere

Rules Discussion

This came up in our new game. If my wizard starts this spell, gets to the end of the round, charges it until the end of round 2, can it be held (sustained) into the next round? Can the wizard spend an action in round 3 to stride and then blast it out?

Similarly if I want to spend my first round on Take Cover, then cast a 2 action Cone AoE spell but hold the release of the spell until later. Then on my second round, Stride out of cover and into ideal position, release the spell, then Stride back out of danger and Take Cover again.

What rule prevents this?

My first thought is Simultaneous Actions. You can't take other actions (such as Stride) until you have finished the action or activity that you are currently doing (such as casting a 2 round version of Horizon Thunder Sphere).

That question is backwards.

It isn't "what page has a rule that states that you can't hold the release of a spell you've cast until after you do some other actions?"

It's "is there a rule anywhere that suggests that you could do that?" The answer is "no, there isn't."
