Staff Nexus Wizard and changing staffs

Is it possible to upgrade the Staff Nexus Wizard's staff, and then later change what staff it is upgraded to?

I'm seeing this thread regarding Staff Nexus, but it doesn't quite answer this question.

Also, a more concrete example to better illustrate what I am talking about:

A Wizard at level 1 chooses Staff Nexus Thesis and gets their custom Nexus staff.
At level 5 they upgrade it to a Staff of Fire that still has their custom spells on it.
At level 9 is there any process available to end up with the wizard having a Staff of Water (greater) that has their custom Nexus staff spells on it? (And losing the Staff of Fire in the process, of course)

Retraining?
Rebuild boon?
Something else entirely?

I think you can upgrade the staff of fire to greater per the normal process.

Yes, but that is not what I am looking for. Upgrading the Nexus Staff of Fire to a Nexus Staff of Fire (greater) is all well and good.

How about upgrading the Nexus Staff of Fire to a Nexus Staff of Water (greater)?

I don't think you can do that. Because from my read, when a nexus staff is up graded it is no longer a nexus staff. It is the upgraded staff.

I have not thought much about this since my post in the post you linked.

Have you looked in the rules forums to see if anything about this is there? Assume you have but wanted to ask.

Yeah, that is where I normally live. I'm just visiting here.

The soft consensus on the rules forum is that you have to check with your GM on what is needed. There probably should be a way to do it, but it isn't specified. Retraining is generally what is proposed.

But "check with your GM" isn't a very practical answer for PFS characters.

At the very least, you should be able to retrain your arcane thesis choice: Retraining a selected class feature is 28 days. Your old staff would lose the benefits it gained from your arcane thesis, but I don't see why you couldn't then select staff nexus to begin anew, and craft your new staff into something different.

Thanks Finoan.
