Intelligent medicine

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Why do we not have a skill feat that allows one to use intelligence for medicine checks? Doctors have to receive an education. So you know, they have a high intelligence.

I know that Crystal healing is a thing, so I guess one can homebrew that it works for treat wounds as well. But this is just something I found odd.

(No, I have no idea what intelligence skill you would use)

It's a neat idea. I get why it's wis based (otherwise the cleric cries) but a skill feat absolutely makes sense. I suspect it's for the reason you described - mechanically it's inelegant because there's no obvious skill to substitute in.

But good thought!

Chirurgeon Alchemist uses their Crafting modifier - including the Intelligence ability bonus - for any Medicine checks.

Crystal Healing uses Occultism in place of Medicine, but only for Treat Disease and Treat Poison - not First Aid, Treat Wounds or Battle Medicine, or any other uses of the Medicine skill.

It's a premiere feature of the Chirurgeon, so it is going to be hard to find.

A feat that works like intimidating prowess to add a bonus to medicine for having high intelligence would be nice to have and is something I added as homebrew for my game. IMO they really should have done a whole series of feats like that.

maybe have it tied to battle medicine. That when you use battle medicine you add/substitute your intelligence mod to the check. That way it complements the field medic background.

Before we get Intelligence to Healing I'd like the DC to be lowered by like 5 first.
Healing at low level is no fun.

Low level is one of the only times healing is interesting in the game.

Eh. I don't know, sitting on my ass for three proverbial hours because i can't get heads a single time on three consecutive coinflips isn't that interesting to me.
