Noxious Metals Sickened Removal

Rules Discussion

So noxious vapors, the new Rage of Elements spell, has an interesting effect. It sickens you "as long as you take the persistent poison damage".

I think you can still remove the sickened condition by spending an action to make a saving throw and succeed. Do people agree?

It's a weird rules interaction.

Noxious Metals. Not Noxious Vapors.

The spell applies persistent damage, but it does not override the normal methods of removing that persistent damage. When the persistent damage ends, the sickened condition ends also.

I believe that you could remove the sickened condition temporarily. Probably until the end of your turn when you take the persistent damage again. There is likely to be differing opinions on that though.

While i don't think anything prevents you from removing the sickened, the actual phrasing of "sickened 1 as long as it takes the persistent damage" would imo immediately reapply the sickened if the persistent damage was still active on the target.

so there wouldn't be any benefit in even trying to do so.

This might also be a case of specific overrules general.
