Coup De Grace

Rules Questions

So, I had a random question that I suspect I know what the answer is.

If a party sneaks up on one helpless enemy, is there a way for them all to coup de grace at the same time? Just curious really.

I mean, logically I could see a group of warriors standing all around a sleeping enemy and coordinating one big strike at the same time.

No sadly the best bet is to let the person with the highest critical damage avg. go for it.

Well, if it's a single helpless target (with nobody else on the Initiative order) they are effectively simultaneously attacking at once.

Combat assumes a bunch of things are happening at once, the Initiative order and different types of actions just abstract it to a workable timeframe.

they wouldnt survive the initial damage, how you flavor it is how you choose to. 15+damage delt auto crit damage is the DC they need to survive, so a level 1 warrior with a great sword would auto kill a dragon except with a nat 20 on the save roll.

As I thought. Good to know either way. Thanks everyone.

The DC is 10 + damage dealt, not 15. Creatures with high fort saves can survive it, though the chances aren't good for a CR appropriate creature.

if the target is asleep for under some magical spell I would say that if the whole party comes up to it they all could do that.
