I do think part of the friction comes from people demanding a new edition bascially as soon as Starfinder existed. It doesn't have the same stream of content as something like PF1e or PF2e, and has only been around for a few years, so it can feel very premature to kill off the game and start it again from scratch when it only relatively recently has started to feel like a full game.
PF1e to 2e was 10 years, Starfinder has had people demanding a new edition whenever a new Starfinder announcement is made since it was 2 or 3 and has only just past the halfway mark. I wouldn't be surprised if a new edition was something they start to plan soon, since new editions take time to make, but it really didn't need to be something that was being brought up every 5 minutes.
My guess is Paizo will have to do a new edition of Starfinder to remove the OGL, but it will be after the 4 Pathfinder remaster core books are done. That gives them time to work on it. Plus it would be better for marketing to not release big updates to both systems at the same time.
At first, I was thinking ending Starfinder 1e with Starfinder Enhanced didn't make sense. But Starfinder is not in a bad place if it was the last rule book. The Drift crisis makes a great ending story. Ports of Call finishes what the Drift Criss started, and adds a new level of detail to the setting. And Starfinder Enhanced seeks to improve the current system making the game more playable for a longer time. Sure, there's more Paizo could do with the current Starfider, but it's also a fairly complete system at this point for people that don't wish to move on to a new edition if we get one.
That's PURELY speculation at this point, hopefully we'll learn more during Paizo con.

It would make sense to me if the plan had been to continue 1e after SF Enhanced, but the OGL debacle caused SF 2e to land within the next year or two as opposed to way down the road. I don't think Enhanced is intended to be SF 1e's grand finale and I'm someone skeptical that it actually will play out that way.

Before the OGL crisis, I think the plan was to continue after Enhanced as well, and it still may be. Lore-wise, the Drift Crisis might not be the grand finale. It might be the catalyst for the events that lead to that. I see how that could be played out more in the current system. I also see how that could play into a mech AP Paizo has hinted at a few times.
Just 18 days more until Paizo Con. We should hear more than one way or the other. Either way, I'm excited for the future of Starfinder.
