Set Relics

Hello, I have a question about set relics.

If a character obtains the five magic items, does he obtain automatically the abilities from a set relic ?

Or are there something to do to active it ?

From what I see in the Set Relic Advancement rules, it looks like gaining the items in the set automatically grants the set features.

That being said, the game also has to be using the set relic rules; just gaining the items doesn't automatically grant those abilities in all games.
