No cart blanche in Society Play (PF2)

I thought that it would be fun to purchase a Cart for a merchant character that I had in Society play, but alas, Carts are not Society-legal because they're an option from the GMG, and no options from the GMG have been sanctioned for Society characters.

Can we please have the ability to purchase simple vehicles like the Cart? I am trying to think of how this might disrupt a game, other than the possibility of having to find parking for the cart once you leave a road.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would suspect it has to do with the somewhat complex subsystem for moving them around.

Might I suggest a narrative cart, that doesn't get a mini or increase your carrying capacity but still makes for good storytelling?

I couldn't even find a donkey or mule on AoN. I did find a wheelbarrow, though.

Reflavor it as a little red wagon you pull behind you.

Sensible reading, and personally I like roll4initiative's suggestion.

All donkeys and mules (or llamas or whatever) are pack animals which are in the CRB. It does not specify what sort of creature the pack animal is so you can flavor it what you want. So I suppose my merchant will just have a pack animal. The cart sounded like fun, though. I'd missed that there was a subsytem attached to make it more complicated.

The vehicle subsystem isn't totally crazy or anything, but it's not something the typical GM actually can recite on command.

Kinda off topic, but the PF1 vehicle system (from Ultimate Combat) showed up in a few PFS1 scenarios, I believe?

The SF vehicle subsystem is a fairly established part of SFS, and it's certainly no less complicated than the one in PF2's GMG. And my impression is that, while it's still a subsystem that most people don't have at their fingertips, the vehicle tag in SFS is significantly less disliked than the far more commonly-seen starship tag (but I could be wrong about that).

I love vehicles in SFS. It's so much fun to take the whole party driving in your truck. I am just sad that carts aren't legal. They should be something that's common, really.

A Chinese wheelbarrow would work great for a merchant cart. Some Chinese wheelbarrows even had sails to let the wind help push them, and Some could carry up to 6 people. They balance the load much better than European wheelbarrows, and have been around much longer.
