Rules Discussion

Ok, got the new book and looked through it and noticed an issue. Dryad gets "a leaves ranged unarmed attack that deals 1d6 slashing damage." Anyone know what the range is for it? It doesn't list any.

Horizon Hunters

It's not stated, but similar ranged unarmed strikes have a range increment of 10 ft, or max range of 20ft. I would say the range increment is probably the closer to what it should be.

Well, 1st level feats max out at a 20' range increment and this is a 9th level feat so it COULD be better though I'm afraid it'll be in line with the others.

Horizon Hunters

No, Sprites Spark and Foxfire have 20ft max. Other heritage/ancestry feat ranged attacks (Seedpod, Spined Azarketi, Hooded Nagaji/Venom Spit) have a 10ft increment. Just because it's level 9 doesn't automatically mean it should have a longer range, seeing as it works on literally any ancestry.

I'm quite aware of that BUT I'm also aware that Automatons Energy Beam is a "ranged unarmed attack" that "has a range increment of 20 feet", hence my noting "1st level feats max out at a 20' range increment".

I'm also quite aware that there isn't anything "automatically" happening, but I'm also aware that the other feats that are being looked at are 8 levels lower that the one in question. Now that may mean nothing but, IMO, it's worth asking instead of assuming it works just the same. I mean, I wouldn't assume a 9th level feat would give me a single cantrip and nothing else like a lot of 1st level ancestry feats do; it might but why would I then pick it over other 9th level feats [or over a 1st level feat for that matter]. That is especially true of a 9th level feat that requires you take a 5th level feat first as a prerequisite and likely means you will not have a ranged unarmored attack until then which means either Retraining and/or having abilities/feats that either don't work as don't work as well without the attack. That's what made me wonder if it's worth the trouble and IMO that hinges on it's range/range increment.
