Suplex vs Trip

Advice

Why Suplex (Wrestler feat) when you can just trip the enemy in one action rather than have to grab the enemy first then attempt to essentially trip them with Suplex? Is this feat mostly for flavor or is their a mechanical advantage somewhere?

It uses an unarmed strike versus an athletics check. It also does 2d6 damage versus 1d6 on a critical success.

Suplex is still a Strike.

It still does normal unarmed damage if it hits (and crit damage if you crit) in addition to tripping.

Ahh thanks guys! Indeed it could be easier to target someone's AC if the enemy has a high reflex save

Wait what?? You mean if I've got an unarmed strike dealing 1D4+4 damage it'll automatically do that damage in addition to knocking enemy prone on a normal success?

You are making an unarmed strike with all its benefits in addition to what Suplex provides.

Exactly that. It is a full Strike with all that entails.

May I ask what happens if I have two enemies grappled in the same round, as my third action can I make an attack with my unarmed attack or is that not possible because my hands are occupied? Also could I "raise shield" with my buckler while grappling an enemy?

"Fist" is a placeholder, you can use any body part. Headbutt away.

Probably can't raise a shield though.

It still seems Suplex isn't that great? Because you have to have the enemy grappled in the first place, I've found that it's better to attack twice then attack then grapple. A lot of enemies don't last till the second round in my experience anyway. I could see Suplex being useful on the second round for sure, but first round doesn't appear very good. Another application for it where it would be good would be after strike/furious grab/suplex. Or Embrace the pain, then on your turn you can Suplex them with your first attack. Does this sound right?

I think it compares reasonably on par with Knockdown.

Knockdown: 2 actions - Strike and Athletics to trip with both at the same MAP stage.

Grapple + Suplex: 2 actions - Athletics to grab, then Strike to both damage and knock prone.

So Suplex has an increased MAP on the Suplex action in this case. But also has a bit more flexibility in that it is possible to do it using actions on different turns, or do something else that gives the grabbed condition in place of a standard Grapple action.

It also gets style points.
