Doubling and Halving damage

Quote:
Benefits you gain specifically from a critical hit ... aren’t doubled.

So if the normal hit doesn't do any persistent damage, then the critical hit's persistent damage entry doesn't get doubled.

Edit: Super Duper Ninja.

In light of the "Pathfinder Core Rulebook Errata (3rd Printing)" notes on persistent damage...

Quote:
Page 451, 621: There are a lot of questions about persistent damage. Check the CRB FAQ for more information, but the one thing that we're adding in errata is explicitly stating " Like normal damage, it can be doubled or halved based on the results of an attack roll or saving throw."
... and...
Quote:
Page 585: In the wounding rune, given that persistent damage doubles on a critical hit, changing the 1d6 to 1d12 instead of doubling would actually make it deal less damage on average. Thus, remove the part about changing to 1d12 damage on a critical hit. Instead, the wounding rune's bleed damage doubles as normal for persistent damage.

It is pretty clear that anything that normally deals persistent damage doubles that damage on a critical hit. What about persistent damage that is the result of a Critical like Fire Ray, Gouging Claw, Shocking Grasp, Tiger Stance, and etc.?

It doesn't double.

Doubling and Halving Damage Core Rulebook pg. 451 3.0 wrote:
Sometimes you’ll need to halve or double an amount of damage, such as when the outcome of your Strike is a critical hit, or when you succeed at a basic Reflex save against a spell. When this happens, you roll the damage normally, adding all the normal modifiers, bonuses, and penalties. Then you double or halve the amount as appropriate (rounding down if you halved it). The GM might allow you to roll the dice twice and double the modifiers, bonuses, and penalties instead of doubling the entire result, but this usually works best for single-target attacks or spells at low levels when you have a small number of damage dice to roll. Benefits you gain specifically from a critical hit, like the flaming weapon rune’s persistent fire damage or the extra damage die from the fatal weapon trait, aren’t doubled.

Not only what YuriP said, but spells don't automatically double damage on a critical spell attack roll. Only strikes and basic saves automatically double damage. Damage for spells is always spelled out in its effects, including if you should double on a critical spell attack roll. Spells with a basic save have the doubling/halving baked into the rule for basic saves, so follow those rules unless the spell specifies otherwise

I don't think it's the website. I think the best explanation is that you're a Time Elemental.

Liberty's Edge

Most likely a protean on the loose.

Them's the details I was missing!! Thanks!
