Magic items for summoning cleric / druid.

Advice

So I've been playing my drow cleric in my game for a little bit. And while he's still low level, it's getting to the point that he needs to start saving for magic items. And I'm wondering what to get him.

He's pretty much focused on his spells and summoning animals and plants. He's gestalted with druid but I'm not going to have him use Wild Shape once he gets it except in emergencies. He has a longbow for when he needs to attack rather than use a spell.

Obviously he'll be getting the stat boosters, especially the headband. But I'm not sure what to get for the other slots. I've played spellcasters before but they were all partial casters with a martial focus. This guy is my first pure spellcaster I've ever played so I have no idea what to buy.

Any suggestions?

Wands of utility or buff spells that don't care about caster level. Metamagic rods, several. Some way to speak to your summons if you can't already. Pearls of power for more spells per day. Did I mention metamagic rods?

Wow, the Quicken Rod is expensive AF.

Probably look into rods of Extend Spell metamagics, to make your summons last longer... you're a Cleric, you can take Sacred Summons for standard action summoning...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm a fan of extend, piercing, and toppling (maybe on spiritual weapon for you?). The Rod of Giant Summoning isn't actually a metamagic rod, but you use it like one to add the "giant" template to summons.

Hm. More HP and bigger damage die for each summon, and a net gain of +1 AC. Helpful.
