Guns and misfires

Sorry if this has been asked before but . . .

I'm confused on how guns misfire.

On page 107 of guns and gears it says that a gun has a flat misfire chance of 20% (5 or less on a d20) if it has been fired previously this day.

Then later is says that a gun that has been properly cleaned doesn't need to roll for misfires at all for the rest of the day.

Assuming you don't subject your gun to stresses by using some feat that explicitly causes it to misfire, which is correct?

1) You spend an hour cleaning a gun and then it won't misfire for the rest of the day?

or

2) You spend an hour cleaning a gun, and the next time it fires it won't misfire, each shot after that is a possible misfire until you clean it again?

What section heading is page 107 of Guns and Gears under? I don't have the book - just trying to find it in AoN.

What I can find is the rules on misfires for Classic Firearms where it says that a firearm only risks misfire for standard use if it is not cleaned for more than a day (usually cleaned during morning preparations, I would expect).

I can also find the rules for Cobbled Firearms that always misfire on a failed attack.

I think that option #2 - only getting one clean shot between cleanings of the gun - is probably fairly accurate to historical weaponry, but is too bad to be true for an RPG.

No, it says if you attempt to fire a gun that was fired the previous day and hasn't been cleaned, not previously this day.

Or earlier.

Today is not earlier than yesterday.
