Hello all. Yesterday, I was replaying with a friend my RotR, using 1ed rules.
During a combat check, both players displayed a strength spell on the same character.
I can't find any reason to not allow that in the rules, but I am not completely sure about that.
Can you confirm if it is possible? Could be possible this scenary using 2ed ruling, in case of displayed cards (during an encounter, play 2 is not possible, but you could display bothspells before the encounher)?
Please, if this question was already answered, send me to the response.
Thankyou so much!

Hello Tistkle, using the "first edition" rules, the playing of two Strength spells by two different characters is completely allowed and you get both +3 bonuses (i.e. +6 in total) despite the "non-stacking" property of enhancement bonuses in Pathfinder or D&D 3.5 rules.
In the 2nd edition, it would depend on the conversion, as this spell does not have official "revised" wording. For consistency purposes, the spells like this I unofficially converted into "Core-style" wording have the key word "freely". In that case, two players may be able to play Strength spells at the same time.
As to the consistency - check the Enhance (it adds to a single chosen skill, instead of a specific skill like Strength): Here

Hi! I agree with Jenceslav that what you describe is allowed using pre-Core rules. As for post-Core (sometimes called "second edition") . . .
In addition to the online conversion guide, remember there are conversion rules in the Core Set Rulebook. On page 26 of the Core Set Rulebook, under the section titled Compatibility with Older Sets, we are told
On weapons and spells from previous sets, any power that adds to or subtracts from a check, or that rerolls dice, may be played freely. Powers that also determine the type of check may not be played freely.
Since the Strength spell adds to a check but does not determine the type of check ("For your X check, use Y skill"), it may be played freely.
So, it's fine in either case.| Jenceslav |
Well, if I remember correctly, Jolly Roger adds a die only on the check of the character who played it. So yes, two players can play it at the same time, but they will get only 1 die on their checks against a ship. At least that's the interpretation I've read somewhere here and incorporated into my unofficial conversion of S&S :)

Jenceslav remembers correctly.
The Jolly Roger card has an FAQ here.
It says the card should read, "Display this card next to your character. While displayed, add 1d6 to your checks to defeat ships."
