Alchmeist discovery Phantom Limb question

Rules Questions

In a game I was in an alchemist with this discovery used this to attack multiple times based on their base attack bonus.

Afterwards we had a discussion. My take on this is that it states it is a Standard action and to my mind that means, even with 5 foot step you can attack with it only once. Am I wrong?

phantom limb as-is is a special attack that can only be manifested a few times a day as a standard action attack.

btw when asking about stuff, it helps if you can provide the info about what your asking in your post.

Phantom Limb:
Phantom Limb (Undead Slayer's Handbook pg. 21): The alchemist can manifest a ghostly, incorporeal arm that juts out from his torso. This phantom limb does not grant the alchemist any extra attacks or actions per round, and it cannot hold or grab anything (including incorporeal objects). The alchemist may use his phantom limb to make a touch attack against a foe as a standard action, scraping away at the very fibers of the victim’s soul. This attack deals 1d4 points of damage per alchemist level (Fortitude half ). Creatures that are immune to incorporeal attacks are immune to this damage, but otherwise the damage bypasses all forms of damage reduction except DR/ epic. The alchemist may suppress or activate this ability as a free action, and can use his phantom limb for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + his Intelligence modifier (these rounds need not be consecutive). An alchemist must be at least 8th level to select this discovery.

even if this ability didn't call out that it take a standard action to use. using touch attack in general is a standard action
- beside the free attack one get when using a touch spell, and then only on the same round it was cast. if you miss, then next round trying to touch is again standard.

"make a touch attack against a foe as a standard action" Undead Slayer's Handbook pg. 21
"A character who can make more than one attack per round must use the full-attack action (see Full-Round Actions) in order to get more than one attack." Core Rulebook pg. 184

A full-attack action is not a standard action, and if somethign asks for the latter, it can't use/be used with the former. So yeah, you're entirely right. Indeed, nothing except ordinary attacks with manufactured weapons or unarmed strikes benefit from getting iterative attacks at high BAB.
