The deviants were also a bland swirl of FX-light monster thingys.
The plot was a bit wobbly as well. Not unlike if one were to take apart all the What If...? episodes, select and mash some of them together into a single 2.5-hour movie and call it good.

Well it's up on Disney+ now so I gave it a look and it's not bad.
Beyond the film itself thought it raises some interesting questions.
Like how much did Thanos know about the Celestials. His whole thing about resources always felt like a shaky motive but if it was really about the Celestials, it makes a little more sense. Especially since the Movie pretty much confirms Thanos as an Eternal (maybe even Eternal/Diviant hybrid like he is in the comics)
Also looking forward to Black Knight and Blade

Just watched it and I liked it quite a bit. Not in my MCU top 5, but that's a high bar. I don't really get why it didn't resonate with so many people though. I thought it did a pretty good job with a large ensemble cast, though I guess I can see some people finding it too many new characters to digest at once. Thought it was far more entertaining than Shang Chi
Some interesting questions left over though, like why did Cersei turn the celestial into stone and leave it behind, when presumably she could have turned it into air, ice and let it melt, etc. And what will the world make of it, especially just after dealing with Thanos and the blip. It certainly ups the ante of what Earth is dealing with - alien invasions and killer robot armies is more relatable, but wiping out half of all life followed by cosmically enormous statue out of nowhere gets into the super weird territory pretty quickly.
I don't know much about the celestials/eternals from the comics, but considering that Ego was supposedly a celestial, and he targeted Earth before the awakening of Tiamut, seems like odd competition there amongst Celestials. Wondering if that will come up in the future.

In the comics at least, Ego wasn't a Celestial (or really much like the movie Ego at all), so not much can be drawn from there.

Have to say. Giant Space God shows up, looks at our world and then is gone....would cause a bit of a freak out.
and people are going to notice a striking similarity between it and the new Statue Island in the middle of the ocean.
and then there is the whole "Free Real estate" rush to plant flags on it.....OH Monster Island. Maybe it becomes Monster Island

Oh, just this:
Eternals Pitch MeetingTechnically this is meant to be funny but like all these it's funny because it's bitingly-true.

You can't go wrong with a Pitch Meeting video, even more so than an MCU movie.

I'm fine with comedy about pitch movie. Also, if you read Neil Gamain's run on Eternals, you might recall people seeing as Space God near the Golden Gate Bridge and just think it's a tourist attraction...So there's that to consider.
For me, the reason I think it didn't resonate as much is because the Eternals were more aliens from space rather than the perfection of humanity to near or above god levels. But eh.

Finally watched it, and I've got to say....
WOW! And I thought Ironman 3 sucked ass.
Granted, I'm not the greatest expert on the Celestials, but I don't recall Kirby having them go around murdering whole planets just to make new ones. I thought that was kind of an insult to him.
The Deviants were....wasted. They had so much more potential for mayhem in the comics, rather than just being biting and clawing monsters. At least they started to move them in that direction, but then....killed the one who actually looked like a Deviant. I guess that puts my hopes for The Serpent Crown Saga into a shallow grave.
And the Eternals - brainwashed foot soldiers helping wipe out entire civilizations, after having built them up. Yeah, I'm sure that's what Kirby had in mind.
Some of the casting was good. Some of the casting made no sense.
Honestly, I think the best parts of the entire movie were the mid credit scene (which tried to be as funny as Guardians of the Galaxy but failed) and end credit scene (which held more promise for the future of the MCU than this entire movie).
There were a lot of scenes that I thought were just...a waste. Serving no point to the plot other than to increase the run time.
Overall, I think this might be my new low for the MCU. It might have been better, I think, if they'd let a good writer like Gaiman do the script. I only hope they don't allow any of the writers or the director to set foot near the MCU in the future.

Oh man... I hurt my eyes one evening during vacation trying to watch this... I made it about to the halfway point. It's been on pause for a week... not sure if I'm gonna finish it.
PS: please tell me the 2nd half sorta gets better... at this point not sure about Disney+... I think the upcoming Moon Knight is the only thing holding me back but if it's not going to be for several months I may stop my subscription.

Have you watched "Only Murders in the Building" It's probably one of the best things on Disney+ at the moment.

In the US, Only Murders in the Building is on Hulu actually (and a lot of fun)

I'm assuming you pay a lot less if they split things up between two subscription
Not sure, but you definitely pay a lot less if you watch all your streaming content over at your cousin's place - the one subscribed to all the streaming services. It's practically free that way.
:DYMMV

It's even cheaper if your cousin sets up a profile for you to use and you can watch it from home, on their account. Saves gas money going to their place.

I have that actually for a couple of the services but watching movies on my laptop with buds is not my preferred method. My cousin has a ridiculously nice* entertainment center and a comfortable couch.
* As in so nice that it's not practical to maximize the experience, not even close, for all the "noise" neighbors tend to complain about.

Eternals was fine. Maybe in the middle of the pack? It had several really nice and original ideas, like no generic mostly off-screen villain (well, the Celestial, but he's more of a sequel problem) and they developed the next best thing from within the team.
However, most of the standard complaints are valid: there's too many characters and not enough time (even with an extra half-hour), the major actors are oddly sidelined (Hayek and Jolie have little to do) and Kit Harington is solely in this to set up his next appearance, presumably in Blade, rather than doing anything in this film himself. Also, although there is some humour, it's turned way down from the Marvel norm which is both refreshing but then that makes bits of the film kind of dour.
Oh that's weird. Up in Canada it's all Disney+; Micky Mouse, Frozen, National Geographic, American Horror story, Aliens, The Strain all in one spot. (I'm still waiting for Owl House Season 2 though)

In most countries that are not the US, most of Hulu's content is on Disney+. Here in the UK we have it under a sub-channel called "Star" (which is easy to confuse with Starz, which here is a sub-channel on Amazon Prime rather than its own thing as in the US but also shows non-Starz stuff which gets very confusing).

Thomas Seitz wrote:(also keep Disney+ if only because No Way Home will be released there.)Are you sure about this? I thought it belonged to Sony not Marvel... I don't see the Homecoming and Far From Home in there...
They signed a streaming deal for the Spiderman stuff, and other content. It's a bit unclear when older Spiderman movies will show up, but it covers all new releases 2022 -2026.
