Starting a new campaign soon and was trying to decide between a couple things for a character I had in mind. The setting is 1500’s Europe in the Renaissance with some magic (alt history). The idea was a Occult Magic user who would perform rituals for the rich who at that time in history were very interested in that kind of magic. Hiding from the church was also essential.
One part of the build that is pretty important is to have a Devil/Daemon/Demon theme to it. His powers coming from that source are important to the story. Even if it doesn’t include that theme I’d still like to hear your ideas!
Level 5 and race probably Human. I was thinking these three builds:
Cabalist Vigilante
Empiricist or Antiquarian Investigator / Witch
Occultist (never played)
I know this sounds like a medium but I hate the class and don’t really want that vibe. Any info or ideas would be great! Thanks for your time!

Yeah Occultist is my favourite, and the Outside Contact class feature covers your "patron" pretty nicely (before level 8 you can just have your character hear whispers on the wind or something).
If you haven't played an Occultist, there's not really any bad Implement choices, but if you want to be a decent martial combatant you need to take the Transmutation Implement. Just the Resonant Power and the Base Focus Power alone give you +2 to hit and damage right from level 1, and by level 6 you're getting +5 to hit and 2d6+5 damage from them (assuming you make good use of a floating Bane enchantment). If you're looking to play more of a caster (blasts, buffs, debuffs, summons, etc) you can ignore this paragraph.
