Prepared slots

Rules Discussion

Just one question. When a cleric prepares a level 1 heal, they can't prepare a second level one heal. Correct?

You can prepare as many of the same spell as you have spell slots for it. No need to put different spells in different slots.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For spontaneous casters (and staves) it doesn't make sense to put the same spell at the same level multiple times. Because the spell is not consumed when cast.

For prepared casters it does. If you want to cast a level 1 heal two times during the day, you will need to prepare level 1 heal in two of your level 1 spell slots.

For prepared casters, each spell slot is separate from the others. If you prepare Heal in one of (let's say) your 3 slots, that has no effect or bearing on the other two slots.

Imagine each of your slots like note cards. At the beginning of the day you write a spell on a note card. As you go through the day, you can use the spell on that note card (and then erase it afterward).

Thanks. Pathbuilder is screwing with me. That's what I thought.
