Inventors and Paired weapons

If an Inventor chooses a weapon normally used as a pair for their invention, does only one of the pair count as the invention?

Or do the pair count as one thing for this purpose? Would they 'share' innovations or split them between them?

RAW only one of them would count. You don't have to use paired weapons paired, they just gain a small advantage if you do

First, I am assuming you are talking about the Twin trait. Correct me if you are meaning something else.

Agreed. They are separate weapon items and the Inventor innovation only gets one.

But I am struggling to find any sort of exploit that would make allowing it to be unbalanced.

The RAW ruling would allow an Inventor to have an Exquisite Sword Cane as their Innovation Weapon. They could also use the Exquisite Sword Cane Sheath in order to get the bonus from the Twin trait. All of the Innovations would have to be applied to sword though since that is what was designated as the Innovation Weapon.

But I haven't found any good reason why the player couldn't have the pair of them be the Innovation Weapon and apply innovations to one or the other (but obviously not both). But maybe someone on the internet can come up with something that I am not thinking of.
