Cacodaemon Possession or Crafting

Advice

So while possession is normally a thing of demons not daemons I had the idea of an evil crafter merging a Cacodaemon with a soulbound doll (effectively merging two CR 2 creatures).

Different ways I can do this:

Option A) full merger, physical stats of doll. Mental stats of Cacodaemon. Mix of SLA and other abilities.

Option B) visually reskin a Cacodaemon to appear as a doll. Use all Caco stats but add construct traits

Option C) (easiest) Just use stats of Soulbound doll. The soul focus houses a trapped or possessed Cacodaemon so when something dies around doll it is able to create soulgems. It also allows doll the constant SLA of caco

Option D) Use same thing as C but the NPC crafter added the ability to use enervation at will. Because its an NPC crafter the price is irrelevant but I know the math would be Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp if the players
Investigated how much this doll was worth. With this option I was going to make in invulnerable to all damage except for positive energy/holy. So any healing spell, channel positive energy, a paladin smite or a holy weapon would damage it. Everything else is just absorbed. Theory being why would a crafter spend all that gold for a soul gem maker for something that can be efficiently 2
Shot.

Background is like I said a toy themed evil villain. I’ve been designing a rogue gallery for one major city. Some inspired by batman or spider man villians some other media, some perversions of fairy tales etc. this one was gonna be a evil toy maker vigilante. Facade is an actual toy maker. Villain using living toys and dolls to create crime. This specific doll is made to trap the souls of victims around to make more evil living toys so obviously wouldn’t want it destroyed easily

Personally, I would gestalt the two stat blocks in question and not look back... so Option A.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend looking at the Soul Drinker prestige class, and Poppet Familiars for inspiration.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You could also have it be an advanced soulbound doll and give it create soul gem as a spell like ability. This way would be simpler, but that is just my two cents.

May I present to you...

Special Abilities

Alignment Variation (Ex)
Soulbound cacodolls are at least partially neutral in alignment, although they can also be chaotic, evil, good, or lawful. They have an alignment-dependent spell-like ability usable once per day as listed below.

• Chaotic Neutral: rage

• Lawful Neutral: suggestion (DC 12)

• Neutral: deep slumber (DC 12)

• Neutral Evil: inflict serious wounds (DC 12)

• Neutral Good: heroism

Disease (Su)
Cacodollia: Bite—injury; save Fort DC 12; onset 1 day; frequency 1/day; effect 1d2 Wis damage, cure 2 consecutive saves. In addition to the normal effects of the disease, as long as a victim is infected, the Soulbound cacodoll can telepathically communicate with the creature over any distance (as long as they remain on the same plane).

Soul Focus (Su)
The soul bound to the doll lives within a focus integrated into the doll or its apparel, typically one of the doll’s eyes or a gem embedded into its neck or chest. As long as this soul focus remains intact, it can be used to animate another doll, using the same cost as creating a new construct. Once bound into the soul focus, the soul continues to learn, and so if later it is put into a new doll body, the soul retains its personality and memories from its previous body or bodies. A soul focus has hardness 8, 12 hit points, and a break DC of 20.

Soul Lock (Su)
Once per day as a full-round action, a Soulbound cacodoll can ingest the spirit of any sentient creature that has died within the last minute. This causes a soul gem to grow inside of the Soulbound cacodoll’s gut, which it can regurgitate as a standard action. A soul gem is a fine-sized object with 1 hit point and hardness 2. Destroying a soul gem frees the soul within, though it does not return the deceased creature to life. This is a death effect. Any attempt to resurrect a body whose soul is trapped in a soul gem requires a DC 12 caster level check. Failure results in the spell having no effect, while success shatters the victim’s soul gem and returns the creature to life as normal. If the soul gem rests in an unholy location, such as that created by the spell unhallow, the DC of this caster level check increases by +2. The caster level check DC is Charisma-based.

Any evil outsider can, as a standard action, ingest a soul gem. Doing so frees the soul within, but condemns it to one of the lower planes (though the soul can be returned to life as normal). The outsider gains fast healing 2 for a number of rounds equal to its Hit Dice.

Susceptible to Mind-Affecting Effects (Ex)
The weakened conviction of a Soulbound cacodoll’s soul makes it susceptible to mind-affecting effects, despite the fact that it is a construct.

Description

These small, sentient dolls contain a fragment of an outsider’s soul. The binding process strips most of the individuality from the soul, making a new Soulbound cacodoll an almost blank slate. Despite this process, fragments of the original outsider’s personality remain.

Soulbound cacodolls can serve as companions, surrogate children, servants, guards, and sentries, as desired by their creators. Creators of Soulbound cacodolls typically take care to take soul fragments from outsiders whose personality traits the crafters wish to see in their dolls.

Many powerful fiends keep Soulbound cacodolls as pets, if only to be able to harvest the tiny creatures’ soul gems. A 7th-level spellcaster can gain a Soulbound cacodoll as a familiar if she has the Improved Familiar feat.

Construction

A Soulbound cacodoll’s body is made from wood, stone, or porcelain, with one exquisite item worth at least 25,300 gp to serve as the soul focus to account for binding the outsider within the doll. Creation requires a soul fragment from a deceased outsider that must die at some point during the creation of the doll—as a result, most Soulbound cacodolls are usually created by evil spellcasters. Other spellcasters can create Soulbound cacodolls, but if the donor soul is unwilling, they may have alignment repercussions. An unwilling soul can resist the procedure with a DC 20 Will save. Stripping a soul fragment from the dead does not prevent the rest of the soul from continuing on to the afterlife, nor does it prevent the body from later being resurrected or raised from the dead.
