This particular one just doesn't work very well for the one baseline Unleash everybody gets, at least not in its current form.
The most significant part is that it is not very good at low levels, least of all at level 1. You have basically no spell slots to use it with, the extra damage is pretty meh and the moment you turn it on you are just asking to die. -2 to AC when you are already 2 behind the curve? Even the giant barbarian is wincing.
At higher levels, basically 9+, this one gets pretty good, as you have pretty massive AOEs at this point. 5d8+10 damage to every enemy in a 15ft burst or 30ft cone with shadow blast? Yummy. But even then the drawback is still too much imo.

It's also pretty weird that you get an option that's explicitly made to increase damage as the default one when only one of the three subclasses is damage-focused, and the Occult list doesn't lend itself very well to the role. I think the default Unleash should probably be one with a neat but minor boon and a relatively minor drawback as well, instead of "suicidal damage dealer mode".

Unleash Psyche seems like an amazing concept to explore with this class, as it allows you to unlock the deeper layers of your mind. However, I'd like to be able to choose your Psyche at 1st level or tie it to your Consciousness, because having Focused Intent tied to your personality by default feels like the entire class has a proclivity to aggression. However, I wouldn't miss the Psyches if they came in form of feats instead of a class feature. That way I'd invest power budget on having more versatility.

For a base unleash I think one that made your first psi cantrip each turn take 1 action less (2 action to 1 action and 1 action to free action) in exchange of a penalty (maybe a form of persistent damage due to the mental strain until the encounter finishes or you drop to 0 HP) would be okay. All subclasses could use that to great extent.
