Scatter Scree area

Scatter Scree

Can it be used on an area/cube in the air?

It indicates the ground only to say it becomes difficult but not as point of origin requirement. I think it's unintended but does it work?

It does say "You evoke a jumble of rocks in the area." so if you have a bunch of rocks floating around i the air...
But on principle I'd say no because it references "in the area" in all parts and the last part adds to that with "The ground in the area". To me that seems to require that the area has to include some ground.

Yeah, you're not going to get falling damage plus the other effects of the cantrip. If you'd like to imagine your summoning in the air and that's where the 1d4 damage comes from then that makes sense. But not to get additional damage.

You’re right. I missed the “in the area” part completely. I thought it was summoning rocks out of nowhere.

I’m not to keen on all the aerial combat rules but how would it cause falling damage?

You have to think like a munchkin.

Cast Scatter Scree 30 ft in the air and then invoke the Falling Objects rules.

I feel like you could argue that it's summoning but no difficult terrain if there's no ground. RAI feels like you need ground though.

There's always Spout for flying targets/swarms.

It's an old munchkin trope to try to summon things in mid air above your opponent and then ask for falling damage to be applied.

I assumed that sort of thing was what you were after.

Oh, I did not even know that. Learned something new.

Unless otherwise stated I assume most spell effects poof after so I didn’t think of that. The spell also has a specific area so if I cast it in the air it wouldn’t affect anything past those two cubes.

When your wand of wonder rolled a 34-36 and you summon an elephant during a aerial fight, the elephant has to end up someplace. ;)
