Got a Summoner Idea
(Might go Synthesist But want to see what else may fit this character better)
Let's talk the eidolon first my idea is like living metal slime taking the form of a a large slime or a metal seperpent. The idea is if someone gets to close it can get spiky and stuff or turn whip like
How would I go about this

Sounds like a base form: Serpentine, subtype: Protean to me. IE: Unchained Summoner.
Refluff improved natural armor as metallic plates (instead of bony plates). Maybe use the tentacles evolution to do the 'spiky' bits. Tail slap does the 'whip-like' part.
I though unchained was kinda of a down grade. At least I remeber some where seeing one of the unchained classes be a bit lack luster compared to it's reg version
I see
What sub class would you recommend ?

Unchained for Summoner is a "downgrade" really only in the case of early access spells (like Haste as a 2nd level instead of 3rd) and complete freedom for the Eidolon evolutions and a few changes to the Evolution point costs (most notably, Pounce going to 3 from 1)
Unchained gets about half the Evolution points (26 vs 15), but gets a bunch of Evolutions for free depending on the Subtype choice.
So adding the free evolutions to the pool, Unchained is at least 39 points with 2 powerful un-costed abilities(freedom of movement and greater polymorph). Compared to 26 for Chained. But you have to want those free evolutions. And different Subtypes are locked into certain base forms.
Personally, the most OP part of either Summoner is the Summon Monster SLA, and it stayed the same.
