Previously the rule to switch factions was to pay 2 fame buy a new faction card, start accruing new reputation.
The options to purchase faction membership with ACP require 15 reputation with that faction anyway: something I think is between impossible for some factions to outright not possible.
Did I miss something, is this something to be addressed in the new guide, or is this one of those small details that got borked in changing to a new system?

You choose which Faction you wish to Champion "Before the Adventure", so although that could use a bit more explanation, I assume it works the same as in PFS2: you can literally change Factions every Adventure.
It's not generally advisable, though, since it would take you longer to accrue the highest Tier of Faction Rewards, but if you like the idea of accessing lower Tier Boons from a variety of Factions, it's easier to do now.

It's going to be easier for new players to understand since the rules are very simple now. Just choose a faction at the start of each adventure. No other requirements.
You should also chose a Faction to represent. Any Reputation earned for Primary and Secondary success conditions that adventure is applied to that Faction.
But us old hands are all going "wait, the faction champion boons have changed somehow, haven't they?"
They have. The Basic Boons are gone, you just choose a faction each adventure. The ACP faction boons you are referring to give the benefits of the old Improved Faction Champion boons. You can slot one of them in your Faction slot, even if you are choosing to represent a different faction in that adventure.

Nope. Gotta champion and improved champion faction (rather sensibly)
Faction: Each faction offers a unique boon to characters who frequently champion that faction, called an improved champion boon. A character with an Improved Champion Boon can slot that boon here only during missions where they are championing that faction.
One stumbling block here is that Paizo still has everything lined to the season 3 guide, the season 4+ guide is on the orginzed play foundtaion website. Without any links from here to there that I came accross.

Finding what's specifically busted is the first step in fixing it. As is eliminating the possibility that I missed something.
I thought the guide wasn't out, turns out its on OPF not Paizo.
However even there Championing any faction you want seems to be implied but could be poked/clarified better.

Just playing devil's advocate: if there's no verbiage around how you 'gain' entry to Factions, does that mean that all factions are fair game? Can everyone just declare that they've joined the Manifold Host, or Second Seekers (Roheas) now?
To play devil's advocate's research assistant: there are currently no ACP purchasable boons for either of those factions. So even if you could pick one of them, it wouldn't get you anything.
