Why do the Spawn of Rovagug need to hibernate so much?

I know it's mainly based on how the Tarrasque was like that in the original DND, but it was never explained there either so it's still an open question.

They're not hibernating.

They're waiting.

Very patient, those chaotic manifestations of primal destruction and fury.

Nobody appreciates dramatic timing more than Rovagug and the fam.

I always understood it was something to do with how their nature conflicted with reality, though, now I think on it, that was more to do with why they rampaged, rather than why they lay dormant.

Look, it takes time to digest protein. Look at real world lions, they lay around in the sun for quite a while after one antelope. Rovagug's spawn eat entire civilizations. That's a lot of protein. Takes a while to handle that, even at their size.

Because destroying the world is exhausting.

I am now seeing the Tarrasque lying on it's back with a huge gut while another spawn yells at it about eating all the prime cities and leaving leftovers messing up it's lair.

Perhaps they look at it as devouring Time itself, so it is really just part of the process... so it would only make sense after having an enormous salad of centuries or longer of time, you want to go on to the next course of your meal... was the Entre (the world) or the Desert (the people).
