As I mentioned, there's an 'event' at some point, but I'm going to delay the next part of the opening scene for a little since everyone seems to be getting involved in the exploration. I think that's really helpful to start laying the groundwork for some of the major features of the world. Also, the stuff you're learning now is setting up plot points down the line.

Yup, just a touch overwhelmed in real life and mildly unsure what the hell to do since I didn't realize the game had even started. Are there any plothooks Transient can stare at, or players who wouldn't mind a mildly mad person harshing there gig?

@Transient, you're lurking and following us based on the post from before. Why not be in the alley behind the merchant depot that we're about to try to sneak into? You could offer to draw any attention away from the Gigar carrying Eleven_Zee_Alpha over his shoulder for reasons that we don't understand and we could go from there perhaps?

This may be something to hash out between Sebecloki and Tai Pao Leng, but are all non-psionics throughout the Protectorate given specific tattoos denoting their lack of Psionics or is it just something done to just those enlisted in the Protectorate military (as was evidenced in Tai Leng's backstory)? ;)

I've replied to the current posts -- I'm going to work up a little fluff on the criminal organizations in the city and just post it for everyone to get updated on. As I mentioned before, this is a very thinly-sketched campaign area. I think there are only like 5 pages on the continent where the campaign takes place in the campaign setting, and there's not much beyond what's in the Player's Guide, so I'm trying to flesh stuff out some more as I go.

I really like the idea they use simple tech in place of not having Psionic powers, The intercom, radio, wet prosses camera, simple combustion engines, all kinds of 1940s stuff,
And this being a kind of a criminal/revolution group rediscovering science and tech. And I can see how the Psionic powers that be would want to suppress this and stamp it out.
Just knowing about science would be an act of revolution

If it helps to flesh this out, I'm sort of imagining this as retro 1980s cyberpunk tech a la Bladerunner -- which also has that 1940s noir ambience.
For the ancient pre-Impact world, I'm imagining it as a mix of Dark Sun with the aforementioned cyberpunk tech.
The technological aspect of the setting is a very important part of the AP -- including in the unfinished adventures. I'm also trying to flesh out the idea that the Protectorate isn't necessarily super sympathetic -- it's a brutally competitive lawful neutral/lawful evil caste system.

There are a number of criminal organizations in Arbil, but the two most prominent are the Diamond Knives and the Smoking Skulls/Malachite Ring.
The Diamond Knives are the psionic thieves guild. They are primarily composed of ophiduans who have, for whatever reason, fallen out of favor within the Protectorate, such that they have to devise alternative means of earning a living. These are, for example, supporters of failed psionic duel challengers, and similar parties. There are also a number of other psionic races. The Diamond Knives direct their particular ire against undermining those who had caused their banishment from the upper echelons of power, and so their concerns tend to be high level smuggling and money laundering schemes, as well as blackmail and other political concerns directed at the upper echelons of Protectorate society.
The Smoking Skulls are a sinister collective of non-psionic criminals that recently absorbed another criminal outfit known as the Malachite Ring. Because of this recent absorption, the Smoking Skull membership from the previous organization still sometimes adopts this previous moniker. The Smoking Skulls are based in the ruins under Arbil, where they deal with contraband from the ruins, including pre-Impact technology. Their organization exists in several Protectorate cities, including Lirasse and Ming. They arrived from Lirasse to destroy and absorb the Malachite Ring several months ago. The previous organization of non-psionic criminals mainly dealt with contraband and had a strong archaeological/antiquarian bent. The Smoking Skulls are more hardened criminals who specialize in assassinations and violent crime.

Everyone else please vote as well -- new recruits or gestalt?
If gestalt -- what kind. I we could just do a normal take another class, or we could do something like a half-gestalt where you get some free archetype abilities (maybe take 1-3 free archetypes for your class to get some extra customization?).

I like the idea of half-gestalt.

I was kind of leaning that direction too b/c there's not that many psionic classes, and if we do full class gestalt we might get a lot of overlap between the individual characters.

It seems like we have at least 4 or 5 still about and interested in playing at this point, so I wonder if gestalt is really needed? I guess of the two options I'd prefer some minor gestalt option to cover things that aren't just now (mostly healing if Gigar is gone, though he was actively fairly recently, so I'm not convinced we've lost him,) to new recruits for now.

I suppose the other option for gestalt would be to have one psionic class and one path of war, though I don't know if that would actually fill the roles that might be missing (Krat would almost certainly want to gestalt into Harbinger for example.)

I do love gestalt stuff, and it'd be nice to play with in an already existing game instead of a Recruitment that never completes.

I'm going to see if Xonti reappears, if not we'll maneuver you back to the rest of the group.
Early games are always a bit dodgy figuring out who's going to stick around -- you have to plan for some drop offs, some players realize the game isn't what they were looking for, play style isn't what they wanted etc.
I was already planning for that.

I'm not a fan of gestalt, so I'll drop in favor of another if that's needed. Otherwise, I'm still here, but learning that the downside of being perceived as a "lesser class", means that when authority is talking, your input doesn't carry much weight.
That's cool though, because she's certain that once she's established as the lifesaver, the status difference won't count for much

Yeah -- that's pretty much in the setting. I've filled out the depiction a bit, but the 'RAW' protectorate isn't really very nice or obviously sympathetic, like that it's completely obvious the PCs should side with them, though I guess the AP sort of assumes they will.

I'm fine with whatever works, honestly. I can already do a little of everything thanks to the Power Stone Repository and Harness Power Stone abilities that I'll probably pick up later, so any kinda gestalting is a bonus, but a fun one I can get behind. More people? Cool. More power? Cool. Just keep going and feed Transient Power Stones until he can function as a slightly limited healer? Cool.

I've no personal preference between staying the Same or going with Gestalt/Half-Gestalt; the Half-Gestalt does seem like a unique concept; kind of reminds me of the Class and a Half option via Castles and Crusades with the additional class becoming active at half the current class level [so a 2nd level main class with a 1st level second class feature thrown in and so on].
