mind probe on a vampire

Rules Questions

Hi folks,
Undead have the following trait: "Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms)."

Mind Probe has the following School: "School divination [mind-affecting]"

So "all mind-affecting effects" would seem to rule out Mind Probe working on an intelligent undead. But I can't tell if the list in parenthesis is meant as a complete list, or some examples, or something else.

So does Mind Probe work on a vampire?

Thanks!

Assume that all example lists like that aren't exhaustive. The game wasn't all made at the same time, so things that would be prohibited had they existed have no chance to be prohibited.

As ErichAD said, these lists aren't exhaustive unless they specifically say so.

Therefore Mind Probe doesn't work on Undead. However, the Threnodic Spell metamagic makes the spell ignore the immunity to mind-affecting effects of Undead.

That was my guess. Thanks folks!

Yeah, it's still mind affecting and wont work, that list after mind affecting are merely examples of common types of mind affecting spells.

Well, no, they're not examples. The list contains (all) sets of effects, that are themselves a subset of mind-affecting. That means that every charm, and every compulsion, and every morale effect, and every pattern, and every phantasm is automatically a mind-affecting effect.

As far as I know, this list is exhaustive in this regard, i.e. it lists all effect groups that are always mind-affecting - although it should really say "enchantment" instead of "charm" & "compulsion".

Divinations (and other effects) aren't listed because these are not mind-affecting in general, only some divination spells are mind-affecting.
