Wait did the lore change? Androids in pathfinder are not biological. They are purely synthethic with nanites for blood, but have a soul.

I think the confusion is coming from the fact that they're synthetic, but they look organic.

Again, going back to my original inspiration for these in "Alien," the androids there look very human, and when they're cut open, the stuff inside is obviously NOT human meat and bone and entrails but lights and circuits and plastic and all that, but also it's all sloppy and juicy and wet and grisly in the same way a human is on the inside.

Maybe the (humanoid) Reploids from Mega Man X would be more apt a comparison than I thought, with that kind of description.

Maybe, but I have no idea what those are, so I can't agree or disagree there. I do know that my original design work for them comes from my deep admiration and love for my favorite movie, though. ;-)

Huh, so I was right they are nothing like Nexus-6 replicants who are indistinguishable from humans.

Reploids are basically just replicas of Megaman X. But with different body types and stuff.

The equivalent would be a self aware android is created in Golarion. Then some people decide to mass produce copies after the patent goes public.

Pretty much this. Mega Man X is considered to be the original, whereas creations afterward following his design (closely or loosely, depending on the model,) are altered "copies" of the original. "Reploid" is a conjoined term of Replica and Android. They are artificial bodies, which are mostly humanoid, though some have non-humanoid features, or are strictly non-humanoid altogether, given emotions and the ability to think, feel, and act on their own accord, not unlike humankind.

Pathfinder Androids are pretty similar to Reploids in concept.

The total of my experience with Mega Man is from a Gen Con over a decade ago. My hotel roommate at the time decided he didn't want to sleep on the last night, the day before we flew out, and instead played Mega Man from start to end on his laptop via an emulator with the sound turned down almost-but-not-all-of-the-way so that the Mega Man music and sound effects poisoned my dreams.

Doesn't have anything to do with androids, as far as I know, but I felt like it was an amusing anecdote to share. :)

This is basically the definition given to Reploids from the Mega Man X series. Granted, many are definitely non-humanoid, they are still able to think with sentience, feel emotion, and have functionality as the real life entities they are modeled after, whether it be humanoids, animals, etc.

I initially wanted to use this analogy for referencing Androids in PF2, and one of the regions in Golarion (Arcadia, or rather, Neo Arcadia) is a name of a human sanctuary actually used in the setting, something that I definitely would have liked to make a campaign out of. But I found the nature of Reploids to be too complex and varied for it to be an adequate comparison to PF2 Androids.

Non-Human Reploids could be beastkin since it is a versatile heritage. That way you can get your Aztek Falcon as a Bird Beastkin Android or Flame Mammoth as an elephant and so on.

We would still need a 2E version of the tech guide for the weapons but it might be fun to see how Reploids would survive without technology. I mean that was the future they would have had if Weil and Copy X and Omega won.

Would definitely make a fun campaign where the players have to raid either Neo Arcadia or ruins of the Class Megaman world for energy crystals to stay alive.

Guns & Gears? Or crossover between StarFinder?

Guns & Gears has Automaton, another robotkind.

This isn't a pop-culture example but Eclipse Phase has Pods. Which are biological bits grown rapidly and connected to a synthetic frame and neurological network as a means of growing useful bodies faster than simply cloning a full-grown human and with less loss of humanity than just building a fully synthetic body. These bodies often have visible seams, ports, and other access points for the tech beneath the flesh. All telltale signs that they aren't completely human.
