Probably a good call. About to go eat some over-hard eggs with breakfast sausage (links), hash browns gently coated with a nice hot salsa from the burrito place.

it's a banger though

An ugly holdover from a time period where the only women who openly, loudly, and enthusiastically consented to sexual relations outside of marriage were seen as(and quite possibly were) in the sex trade. The idea of unattached women wanting to have sex with men without some degree of subterfuge and even outright force was unheard of at the time.

Kind of. They certainly wanted to and many did, but keeping up the pretence was important for fear of being thought of as "loose".

The song as understood in that context isn't bad, other than by reflected the deeply sexist norms of its day. In a way it's an encouraging sign that kind of pretence isn't the norm any longer that people commonly
see it as skeevy today. The token protests come across to modern ears as genuine ones, since we don't have the same context for pro forma protests.

(Of course, one of the big problems with that old approach was the difficulty of distinguishing between those token protests and real ones.)

Yeah, it's very much "aw, she's just playing hard to get, you know how women are". And sure, the songwriter decided that diagetically, she does secretly want it, even though she said "the answer is no". But non-diagetically, it's skeevy and pushy as hell.

(I also read it as more a "seduction" song than a "playing coy and looking for a socially acceptable way to have sex" song. You know, the woman is reluctant, but the guy persuades her. That's how the lyrics come across. And it's always going to sound pretty gross.)

Oh, also, my girlfriend's mom got me a makeup kit and my girlfriend administered it.

Oh wow!

Just about to head to bed. It was a very nice night. Unfortunately, my girlfriend had to ruin it while dumpster diving by bringing this freak of nature back to our home.

My girlfriend also crafted me these, though, so all is forgiven. A close-up.

It was a really nice Christmas. I just finished calling my Bellevue girlfriend and giving her her (virtual) present. My birthday's in two days, and the live-in gf's is in five, and the long-distance gf arrives around Jan 2nd for more delayed celebration, so it's gonna stay hectic for a bit longer before things settle down. Will I work tomorrow? Maybe, maybe not. We'll see how I'm feeling. I'd like to. I currently have a huge chapter buffer, and that makes me happy, and I want to keep it going. On the other hand, it's Boxing Day, the day between two big days for me, and I'm pretty beat.

Once more, the last time I'll say it this year: Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate it, and Happy Limp-Wristed-Attempt-At-Secularism-While-Still-Shoving-Our-Stolen-Christian -Traditions-In-Everyone's-Faces-Because-We-Can't-Imagine-Anyone-Wouldn't-As sociate-December-With-Presents-And-Eggnog-And-We-Assume-That-It's-Just-The- Default-While-Everyone-Not-Raised-In-The-Dominant-Religion-Sighs-And-Waits- For-The-Endless-Season-To-End Holidays to the rest!

This community has always meant so much to me, and I'd be a different person without it--probably a pretty unpleasant one, honestly. As exhausting as the place can be, I'm so glad I got into it and not Reddit or 4chan. I appreciate the Paizo workers, the Paizo fans, and even the Paizo forums. I'm glad I've had them in my life.

Happy Xmas, KoCa!

It's Boxing Day in the UK, but that has nothing to do with fisticuffs (it refers to the tradition of giving presents to the dustmen/garbage collectors, postal workers, etc.), unless things get out of hand at the duck race.

We Canadians also celebrate Boxing Day! It's like an extra day of Christmas!

Oh, and it is tradition for the duck race to be rigged.

I've started reading LOTR to my girlfriend, who's never read it before. I like how hobbits give other people presents on their birthday. It would make this time of year very expensive for me, though.

Not to brag or anything but in America every race is rigged!

It was. The race organiser's Mum won, but it was for charity, and all the winner got was a mid-priced bottle of sparkling wine, so no-one cared.

We're getting ridiculous amounts of snow here. Like, six inches. For the Willamette, that's a lot. Did my annual traditional barefoot walk to the mail, so now I'm inside again defrosting.

I just love how everything becomes muted after a good snowfall.

Gosh, I really hope we don't have a power outage as bad as last year. That was awful.

For you that's a lot of snow, for those of us in Wisconsin it was a Tuesday.

Hey! That happens here to! What's up with the snow coming in on Tuesdays?

Alright, then, time for sleep. Finished reading Chapter Two of Fellowship of the Ring to my girlfriend. It's really weird, because I was raised so inescapably with the NPR Playhouse radio play that their script became synonymous with the text to me. Now, suddenly, I'm reading it after all these times and remembering that a lot was delivered very differently. It's mostly all the same stuff, just scrambled about a little.

Tomorrow I'll try to do some proper writing. Maybe take a real hack at the commission I've been chipping away at for a couple weeks now. Jalapeno mac and cheese for dinner, assuming the oven's operational by then and we have enough milk.

Oh, and it's still snowing; we're up to at least eight inches. I really hope we don't get an outage.

KC, that lamp is haunting my dreams now...if it dispensed rum, I would consider MAYBE letting it stay in our house, maybe...

We got the perfect amount of snow. About an inch on Friday, just enough to have a white Christmas. It's all melted now.
We did have a bit of an ice storm on Christmas itself, which could have been nasty, but I didn't go anywhere in it, so that was okay. :)

thejeff wrote:

That is far from perfect.

I got her RGB bulbs for Christmas and she put one in Jack's lamp. Last night she went outside and activated it while I was almost asleep.

I'm just finishing up a snow run, nothing respectable like the 8+ plus you got but enough to keep me busy for awhile.

It's quiet in quarantine.

Been calling people on my caseload to talk to them privately about ehats going on and that has been going pretty well. I spoke to my boss boss today about it and she was pretty upset. She wants to talk to me more upon my return, and that's more than okay.

Working. Finding out that one of our clients has an employee that's hosting a website from their work laptop and asking us why it's not working correctly. So, basically, just like everyone else, I'm just wandering around in a haze of confusion.

Grand Lodge

Well…you CAN host a server from a laptop. Not WELL, but it can be done. I think we had some set up like that for field ops where the number of clients was really small.

CAN. Should? I mean, I get it if they're just setting a site up for testing or other really limited case like you're talking about, but these people have access to their own dev servers and VM hosts that they can spin up stuff at will. They have no need or legit reason to be doing this.

Also, this isn't being done on a separate laptop. This is the person's everyday production laptop.

how is he still here jesus christ

In not how-is-he-not-banned-yet news, my girlfriend's been really on my case for us to start a Minecraft server with Bellevue gf. I'm down for it, sort of. The cave update looks gorgeous, but I can ill-afford another special interest lately. XD

This dude's gonna get suspended again, as he always does, and if they don't make it permanent this time I'm probably just going to leave. It's not healthy for me. It's infuriating that he's still around, that the mods didn't consider him sticking Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson quotes in his bio knowing what those men represent to trans people enough of an issue to make him take them out. I know he knows because I told him, and his response was to emphasize the quotes further.

I may live rent-free in his head, but he lives rent-free in mine these days, and I don't want him in here.

I'm personally working on stuff for a session I'm running this Saturday with the basic premise of "Lost Underground City of Bat People." I'm worried it won't be good, but then I worry about that with every session and it turns out okay, so fingers crossed.

Were you going to play Minecraft anyway?

If so, it doesn't mean you have to play more than you were already planning to. Just have to set up the server - which I recognize is not without a time and mental energy impact - but it would be another avenue for more easily staying in touch with the long-distance girlfriend.

Short term cost for doing something you were already going to do and be able to spend time with your girlfriends simultaneously? Looks like long term gains, in my opinion.

He used to be (don't know if he still is or not) quite tight with Tonya. He was a Paizo "can do no wrong" lap dog yes man for years before he decided to start criticizing them.

Maybe residual good feeling is stopping them from banning him

Yeah, I've been hearing that a lot. TK basically represents the last scrap of goodwill I had towards Tonya shriveling away in realtime.

I mean its worth noting that he was Tonya's toadie. Its not entirely surprising that he hasn't been banned because he's been sheltered and protected from any sort of ramifications because of her. Do you seriously think that his behavior is any different when he was a volunteer for Regional Venture Cordinator?

I would have tried to do something myself but he wasn't even the only Regional Venture Cordinator who she let run rough shot over the community. I had my own issues to deal with and given her responses to harassment victims I just had no recourse beyond a few bizarre hail mary's I didn't want to use.

My good mood basically vanished as soon as I saw his post, and all I have left is this frustrated sadness. Which sucks, because I was just starting to feel like things were getting better again. I'm very affected by people who ignore the pain of others for petty or banal reasons, and especially when my own boundaries and comfort levels are trodden upon. Not only has he done that repeatedly, his very continued presence is a testament to people's pain and boundaries being ignored.

This sort of thing really eats at me. It makes me feel powerless and vulnerable. The fear of this kind of scenario is where I get some of my worst habits from.

And his reasons for doing all this are so pathetically petty.

I hate that this miniscule, ugly soul might be the one who finally drives me from this place for good. Like, he shouldn't matter. I do not want to hate this hateful a*~$*%!. But here I am.
